  • Garmin Approach G80

Wondering if anyone here has picked up the Garmin Approach G80, while i don't expect amazing results, the few reviews i have seen seem to be positive. I am in the market for a new range finder so i was thinking the additional benefit of a launch monitor/tool to use at the range to dial in yardage would be good. I know how obsessed this forum is with golf so thought a few of you might of tried/or have it. As always, any feedback/thoughts are highly appreciated.

I am trying to compare that with new Bushnell XE too.

I picked one up a month ago. On the range, it's pretty darn accurate! On the course, it's great! If you get one, remember to lock it when you are playing. If you put it in your pocket, or something touches the screen, you might end up six holes in front of where you are. You lock/unlock it by touching the on/off button.

The one downside I forgot to mention: When using it on the range and you are hitting a lot of balls, the radar will get over heated and the unit will tell you to shut it off so it can cool down. This has been happening after hitting a large bucket "plus" of balls. I haven't figured it out if it is the quantity of reads that is causing this or the high frequency of hitting balls without a break between the shots. Has anyone else had this problem?

Had a Garmin but sent it back and got does Samsung Galaxy watch and haven't looked back since. TaylorMade has an app called myroundpro that is amazing. There are also other golf apps but Taylor made myroundpro is extremely accurate and it is stand alone. It's an amazing watch besides all of the gulf features but you couldn't go wrong with that combination and the app is free. I didn't like the Garmin because of the dull and colorless seemingly screen, and lack of features outside of golf... And I also wasn't impressed with a golf features of the dedicated golf Garmin watch.
