  • Electric Push Carts - is Follow Me really worth getting?

Wondering if folks have experience with these and could share some thoughts?

Is the "follow" feature a must have?
Seems like Stewart and Foresights have this feature. Are there others worth considering?
Would a remote-only buggy be sufficient?
Any thoughts on the Club Booster V2?

From the couple of people at my course that have one they really like this feature and suggest that it was worth the additional cost.

I play with a guy that has a remote controlled cart that he maneuvers with a little joystick remote. He parks it outside the trees when he gets his ball in there which would be harder with a "follow me." If I were going to buy a powered buggy, it would be a remote.

I have a Stewart Q Follow on its way - should be with me next week after an 8 week lead time.
Prior to that, I had the Stewart X9 Follow... and have had 3 Stewart Golf trolleys prior to that over the last 12 years.
I replace them because I want the newer model - not because they break!

The follow feature was a great addition on the X9, and really gives you the feeling of having a caddy. Sure, it can’t be used all the time, as it’s not clever enough to manipulate its way round tight paths etc, however I use it about 90% of the time round my course.

It also has the remote - which is handy for when your ball is at one side of the green, and the next hole is at the other side.
Go over to your ball, chip it on, grab your putter... and then direct your cart round the green between your playing partners putts. That way it’s ready for you walking off.

I’m in Scotland, and often playing in conditions of just a few degrees C. As a Raynauds Syndrome sufferer (very cold fingers), the Follow allows me to have my hands in my pocket (with hand warmers in them) whilst striding along the fairway, rather than holding onto a trolley or even remote.

Yes, the Stewart Golf trolleys are expensive. I must’ve spent a fortune on them over the years... however I always get a good return on a second hand one when selling privately after upgrading. I got nearly £1000 back for my X9 Follow after 3 years of use. I paid £1300 for it (Amazon Prime Day sale), so £300 for 3 years is pretty good. I also sold my F1 (previous foldable trolley) for newly £800 after owning it for over 5 years... so can’t complain at that either.

Let’s be fair... you’ve probably spent 10x more money on a golf simulator than the cost of one of these trolleys without thinking too much about it! The follow trolley will save your back, give you less to think about when playing (once you get past the novelty of looking behind you to make sure it’s there!!), and ultimately lower your scores.
        A worthy investment!

Can’t wait to get my new one!!

I know the Stewart Golf trolleys definitely have a remote, and I’m pretty sure the Foresight one does too. The trolley ‘Follows’ the handset.
You can use the trolley in Follow, remote, or just plain old push mode!

If my ball goes in the trees, I turn it off of Follow mode, and stop it in the fairway. When I find my ball, I remote control the trolley up to the edge of the rough where I am so I can grab a club without having to walk back for it.

Really want to start walking the course. Wondering if an investment in an electric trolley would further motivate me to that end. Also does the remote or the navigating of the trolley distract from playing?

In the UK, we generally walk the course all of the time. The only time I really use buggy’s is when I visit the US.

Prior to a remote trolley, I had a Powakaddy Freeway, which was just a battery operated push cart. I then moved onto a Powakaddy Robokaddy (remote), and then various Stewart Golf models since. I don’t know if I’d change to another manufacturer now as the Stewart Golf trolleys are just so god!

Perhaps for a start, having the remote / Follow is a bit of a distraction. A new toy - you’re always going to ‘play’ with it more when it’s new. It’ll take a bit of getting used to - how it drives, steers etc - and working out its capabilities. What can it drive up, and what do you need to help it up. Although it’s very stable and capable, it’s not a mountain goat... so will need a push sometimes on really steep slopes!
Once you get used to it, it just becomes second nature. No more hassle than walking over to your ball from your cart I guess?

When changing between my first 2 remote Stewart trolleys, they’re wasn’t any difference in usability, so the tradition was seamless.
When swapping from a remote trolley to the Follow, there was a bit of getting used to. Checking it’s there. Making sure it’s not still on the tee when you walk away. Taking a wide line when walking past a bunker / water to make sure it doesn’t fall in. Having used the X9 Follow for almost 3 years, I think I’ll be using the Q Follow without any transition as it’s electronics etc are the same. The only difference is the way it looks, and how it folds down much neater.

Is there nowhere you can demo a follow cart... or rent one for a round to see how you like it?

I ended up getting an electric cart last summer when i happened to be browsing other golf crap in local ads. I must say, i can't think of walking without one now. I don't have a follow one, i use a remote and it's not distracting at all. Since I don't have a follow feature i can't comment on it, but i would say you would want to switch between remote and follow very easily as I can see lots of times not using the follow option. I have the bat caddy cart.

Absolutely priceless! Not sure where one could rent an electric push cart for a test run...at least where I'm located

I have an older Sun Mountain push cart however really think I would enjoy having some motorized assistance.

I have a Caddytrek with a follow me mode. I love it when it works, which is only about 80% of the time. It doesn't like concrete cart paths is the biggest issue.

My Alphard ewheels club booster has tether mode where it follows you with a magnetic tether. It is amazing. I didn’t think I’d use it very often, but I use it everywhere except steep hills.

I had the original on a CaddyTek from Costco. The new V2 I bought their swivel wheel cart during the pre-buy.

Just had an email from Stewart Golf with tracking info - so looks like my Q Follow is due for delivery tomorrow (almost a week early). Happy days! Can’t wait to see what it looks like in real life.

That is awesome P3. I'm in the states, so mine is still another couple of months out. Please post the weight and dimensions...there is nothing on their sight with this info.

The folded dimensions are on the site.
I used them to make sure the shelf I store my X9 Follow on was high enough. It wasn’t, so I’ve raised it in preparation! No mention of weight though.

                            Dimensions:
                            Height: 545mm
                            Width: 600mm

It’s here - but I’m not opening until I get home from work. The box says it’s 23kg - but obviously that includes packaging, chargers etc. I’ll see what the trolley weighs on its own with my baggage scales when I get it out of the box!

The trolley weighs just under 19kg with the battery in, and bang on 15kg with the battery out.
Much easier to carry than the X9 was, as it has an integrated handle and a better footprint size.

Seems to feel sturdy enough - looking forward to getting it out on the course... hopefully at the weekend.
