  • Thinking about getting a Protee system - Questions abound!

As one of the more cost effective launch monitors out there, Protee looks to be a good entry level system for me to get for shot analysis. As I delve into the system and get my head around installation, some questions arise:

1 - The putting sensors seem like a nice add on to help improve putting. Any thoughts on how accurate the putting analysis is?
2 - Is getting the horizontal launch camera good for improved accuracy?
3 - Base Pack or Base Pack 2?
4 - How durable is the sensor mat? Does the "turf" stand up to repeated use?
5 - It looks like I'll need to build up the floor around the sensor mats. Any recommendations to how to do that? Materials, turf, etc?
6 - Are the included halogen lights good to use or should I be looking for better lights (brighter, colder color, LED) to use?
7 - In the setup information on Protee's web site there's a section about setting up the cameras. It talks about setting up the cameras for different clubs. Is this important to do or have you found that one setting for all clubs usually works fine? If you do have to set up for different clubs, how do you tell the system which club you're using and what about when multiple players are playing?
    8 - What else should I know before shelling out $3 - 6K :-)

    Thanks!!

I would recommend getting the base pack 2. I have a base pack 1. It has developed issues, but those issues are not relevant to your questions. Base pack 2 seems to solve a couple of issues that base pack 1 has. The first is putting. With base pack 1, and 2, the light is directly above the middle of the sensor. That means your head will place a shadow above the sensor in the hitting row. Of course this means they will not read correctly. Putting is not bad with the base unit, but you have to back off into an unusually position, so it is not normal and you can't practice your putting as you may like. The putting sensor solves this issue.

The other issue is horizontal launch direction with the base unit. I don't have a horizontal launch angle camera, but as I understand it the horizontal launch angle camera significantly improves horizontal launch angle measurements. Without it you will get more misreads and less accurate shots.

In any case, you have to know your numbers. There are a ton of modifications you can make to your distances and shot shapes in the interface. You can get it very close, but you have to know the what your are trying to accomplish.

Protee's customer service is world class and I am not overstating that.
