  • Happy with your protee system

After my skytrak troubles I felt the need to ask.

I know skytrak should be more accurate since it reads spin numbers. But in general are you satisfied with your protee purchase for a garage simulator type system?

we are looking at starting a winter sim league for about 10 guys at my house.

I was thinking about a protee/TGC package and adding the second camera. Other option is a GC2 but I would like the club data and the price is more then I am interested in really.

    Thanks for your help guys!

It seems like it would be one of the, if not the most accurate system for picking up chips and putts, even without the very expensive putting sensor. If anybody has the putting sensor, I would very much like input on whether it is worth over a thousand. Putting and chipping is very important to me in a simulator. For instance what fun would Augusta be without putting. It is also of course cheaper than the gc2 and seems to integrate with tgc better Since it was made by the same company. It does look like it's more difficult to set up and I would like to know if a 10 wide, 10 high, 16 deep area is sufficient for their camera system. I have tried to read through everything on here and this seems to be a reasonable option. I got a good price on the whole system including screen, computer, and projector from chip at spectrum golf and he seems like he is on the up and up. Thanks for any feedback.

I wasn't a fan of the putting sensor but if you say that putting and chipping is important in a sim, then ProTee's Putting Sensor is very good. I still find putting on a sim disappointing since on the sim I often find myself 20 feet past the hole when putting from 20 feet out. Doesn't generally happen that way in real life. With time, I assume you get used to it.

The width of your space is on the tight side. You will have to offset the sensors from the room's center line. My room is 13 feet wide and I am offset about 12 inches.

This may sound crazy but my wii controller on a sklz simstix is extremely accurate in putting. Seems these guys (any LM/sim software solution) could put a device on your putter that uses the same technology thats in a 150 dollar wii and have an accurate putting (and chipping for that matter) mechanism. 1100 for a putting sensor is ridiculous IMO for something that is an important part in a realiztic golf simulation. I would hope ProTees putting could at least do as well as a wii motion controller without that extra expense. It is not only me that says it is important, I would think it is important to anybody that is spending that kind of money to try to replicate a golf environment.
Thanks for the information on the room size. So it will work but I will have to play with the sensors?

Issue with putting is not accuracy. It has more to do with feel. The image on your screen attempts to recreate the 3D of the putting green, but it doesn't really translate to how you measure "feel". It's pretty easy to go 10 feet past on 12 foot putts, for me at least. ProTee putting is as good as it gets for golf sims according to everything I have heard from others.

Only thing you will need to do for your sensors is offset the main sensor to allow room for your backswing. That means more space behind the sensor and less in front, when you are facing the sensor, addressing the ball. For right handed golfers, the sensor is offset toward the right side of the room when looking at the direction of the impact screen.

The putting sensor however should remain centered in the room since the image on the impact screen is centered and you should be aligned with it for realism.

You can find pictures of my ProTee sim build in this forum where you can see this offset.

I have decided that my sim room is finally finished. Of course there are a few things yet to be done so that it's 100% complete, but that's the nature of DIY

How well the put sensor works is definitely dependent on you using your imagination. I find it easier just to read the distance and slope and not look at the screen again. I only have one friend who doesn't care for it. I blame it on his age and lack of technology in his daily life.
