Just wondering what you all are using for balls in your sims? Anything durable and easy on the screen?
I learned not to hit logo balls after seeing them rub off on the screen.
    Thanks!

Lake balls. First sign of scuffing, don't use them any more. Scuffed balls at high rpms are like sandpaper on the screen.

Noodle - half the time they break, otherwise eventually scuff.

Bridgstone e7 - never break, scuff more easily.

Also, never mark balls with any marker. Marker never dries completely and ends up staining the screen.

I use used ProV1s since my sim hardware measures spin, and I play ProV1s IRL. I just make sure to change them out if I notice any scuffs.

They usually crack open before I scuff them up too bad though.

Thank you! So I am guessing hard balls are not an option? Free pinnacle ultras were scuffed bad in one day of me using the sim.

I use nothing but brand new balls (either Prov 1.or x's) for two reasons. First the cover is non scuffed and so they don't chew up the projection screen and two they have no markings, embedded dirt etc which will transfer to the screen. If your irons have sharp grooves then be careful about scuffing up the cover. I had a set of irons which made balls look like they went through a cheese cutter.

If you are having excessive ball cracking then be careful you are not placing the ball with the same orientation all the time when hitting as you will be continuously whacking the same part of the ball. I had this problem with my former Vector Pro monitor which required a line on the ball and a specific orientation of the line for best results. Marking a line on both sides of the ball halved the cracking frequency.

Strangely enough all balls are different. I have a closet full of balls that I got free over the years. I tried these old HP2 Tours with my school logo and they are a full club shorter. I tried some old Maxflis and they are a full club longer due to lower spin. When it matters I use prov1's because they are consistant I got a bunch of boxes for free. I play TM's. They are consistent but spin less than prov which is why I don't use prov outside. Spin to far back.

IMHO, the only thing that matters is don't use balls once they scuff. My sand wedge shreds balls. I don't use my SW in my sim for that reason. Once shredded, I take the ball out. Just make sure you check them often. As aja says, shredded balls shred the hell out of your screen spinning at 9000+ rpm.

If your sim hardware does not measure spin, I wouldn't use urethane cover ball, that's just a waste. I'd be using something very hard.

Any suggestions on a very hard ball that doesn't become sand paper in 2 rounds?
                I just ordered 50 AAAAA 2015 prov1s on ebay.
I know that I will need more to have and try so keep the ideas coming!
                Thanks!

Try a non-limited flight range ball. They're built for extended use.

All depends what your input device is (GC2 or ProTee) If it doesn't measure spin then using ProVees is being overzealous. I have a ProTee and regardless, some balls simply break and other brands don't. But as I understand it, ProTee could care less what ball I'm hitting. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I just ordered some 40 compression balls to find out what they are like, but I don't expect they'll make a hill of beans difference to my ProTee sim.

The only thing that will change with different balls with ProTee is speed and launch angle. That may have a small difference in spin.

Real golf ProV or Penta in tourneys. Hacking around home course, whatever in bag. Sim play I use ProV or Penta when I am serious or want to look at numbers well. Otherwise I use clean shag/range/floater balls. The only problem with the floater balls is they seem to crack easy. Any scuff, crack etc..that ball is gone.

72 holes and then 3 guys being tough on a driving range with all clubs for over an hour. Played on 3 prov1s and they still look near new. The ones I ordered should last a while.

I use Srixon Q-Stars on the course sometimes. I tried them on the simulator. After one round, the cover felt like 1000 grit sandpaper. They have a "Spin-Skin" technology that is a coating to grab on the greens. Evidently it does not hold up to hitting the screen. I will not be playing them on the sim. I had been using ProV1s and after many rounds they felt smooth.
