  • 17'x18' new space

    Hello,
We're building a house and 10' basement ceiling height is only setting us back $2k. I have a 17'x18' space, how wide should I make the screen?
    Cheers,
    R

That makes sense if a projector can do that. Can a projector do that?
-how far from the screen would I place the projector?
-how far from the screen would I place the tee?
      Cheers,

You've almost got the perfect ratio for a widescreen image - 16x9, so 17x10 will probably work out well too with minimal wasted space.
A projector will easily cover that space - but the distance totally depends on the projector you're looking at. Each model has its own "throw ratio", which determines how far it needs to be from the screen to cover the area. You're probably going to need a "short throw" projector to be able to do it - which is a projector that can project a large image from a short distance.

My garage (where I'm re-doing my sim room) is almost identical in size to your basement. I've made my screen almost square due to having a door at the back of the garage. I have my mat as far back as possible - leaving plenty of clearance to swing my driver without hitting the back wall!

with 18' feet not sure you can go 17 feet. It all depends on the throw ratio of the projector. There is some formula. The place where you purchase the net/screen/enclosure should be able to tell you.

just google something link projector and throw ratio

You have a nice wide room. My room is 13x18.3 with a vaulted ceiling.

I'm budgeting $1k or less for a projector, I'll start a search on here today. I have an Epson that has been less than reliable (iris failure) so I'll probably get a different brand.

I have the benq1080st. 16x10 screen, 14 feet from the screen. You'll have no problem with the right projector.

10 feet from the screen. Projector is just over 9 feet from the ground.
