  • Touchscreen or keyboard/mouse for ProTee?

I'm in process of building the simulator room with the ProTee system, what is the best input method for this system? Touchscreen or keyboard & mouse or both?

  • #2
I use a touchscreen but you have to access the TGC menu by hitting the ESC key, so you do have to have keyboard input as well.

The cost of a touchscreen is not much more than other monitors so I got one instead of a plain monitor.

Hopefully, one day someone (ProTee, are you listening?) will put a way to activate the TGC menu directly on the screen so that using a touchscreen isn't "clunky".

aja, nothing is needed on the screen. Weakhead can make one with Autohotkey. Just have to pick an area and there are lots of places to do that.

I would help but I use floor buttons rather than a touchscreen. One of my floor buttons emulates the ESC key.

Gotcha on that, but I had a quick look at the Autohotkey programming and that's a bit too steep of a learning curve for me to set this up. As I said, I would help with testing... and would certainly use the finished product...

I have set up Voice commands but don't use them that often anymore, but they worked reasonably well.

FaultyClubs - floor buttons? I like this options since I'm building a sub-floor, can you post pic of your configuration? If not, please tell me more about this feature.

Script and button are ready to go I just need to know what TGC's name is, as it appears in Windows Task Manager. If someone could post a screenshot of their Task Manager with TGC open I can finish the script. Also in the screenshot below under the "Untitled - Notepad" you will see the Menu button I created. It floats on top of all other windows and can be moved anywhere you want.

Vuvision: I use "zero delay" arcade buttons. Example from Amazon is: https://www.amazon.com/Amatek-Joysti...ay+usb+encoder

Other people use triple foot switches. Example from Amazon is: https://www.amazon.com/Scythe-USB-3F...le+foot+switch

Most people put them along their hitting mat so they can reach while in the "address" position. I prefer them behind my hitting mat so I can reach while setting up my shot (just prior to moving into the address position). Press them with the club. Prior to this I used a touchscreen keyboard mapper on the tablet but being able to control TGC while out on the hitting floor and looking down the fairway is a much better experience than fiddling with a touchscreen or tablet. Once the game has started I never touch the mouse/keyboard.

Thanks for your quick response. Sorry, I didn't want to cross thread this topic so I started a new thread for Foot Pedal. Please let me know what you think in this thread: http://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum/...for-protee-tgc

Thanks. It will look for a window called "The Golf Club" to send the Esc key to

    1. You will need to download and install the AutoHotKey program

    2. Run the TGC_Menu.ahk file
You'll have to download it from my Dropbox - https://www.dropbox.com/s/4eo4h7bzi1..._Menu.ahk?dl=0

The menu button will appear on top of other windows.
It can be moved by grabbing the black border with a mouse.
Clicking the button will simulate sending the Esc button to TGC

    3. After confirming that this works, I will make it look better. I will you use a picture that will look like the other graphics from TGC.

Let me know if it works please. The button can me made any size and the spot on the screen can be changed if you find a spot where you would like it to always appear.

Autohotkey can be used to send any keys to TGC for someone who wants to use just a touchscreen.

I guess that's why most people just use Mike80's remote tablet touchscreen. It's solved the complete problem already.

Would the touchscreen monitor approach have any advantages over Mike80's touchscreen tablet solution?

One less moving part - no tablet, I guess.

I'm really hoping that ProTee recognizes the need to streamline accessing the menu and being able to make all the selections via one "device", in my view, a touchscreen. E6 has been doing this for ages as have most "commercial grade" golf sims.

What would Protee change? It is nice to only need one device to control tgc when playing a round but that can be achieved now with a tablet or floor buttons.
Working...
