Pre-Sale Questions

Hi,

I’ve been lurking around this forum for a couple months and sincerely appreciate the knowledge that has been accumulated and shared. it’s led to what I feel is the right simulator choice for me. Before purchasing, I do have a few questions that I hope you guys can help with.

Intended Use
We live in Connecticut, USA so winters are long. Our goal is to build a space where my friends and I can play simulated courses and my two boys and I can play and practice. We’re all mid-high handicappers. Personally, I haven’t seen much improvement in my game in many years so I’m hopeful…

Physical Space
We have a large barn that has been converted to an indoor baseball batting cage. We have sectioned off a 13ft (long) x 10ft (high) area for a golf simulator. Hitting screen will be home built with EMT tubing and projection/impact netting. Ceiling mounted short throw projector.

Intend to Buy
ProTee Base Pack + TGC 2016 & ProTee 2.0 or Base Pack 2 as it seems to be on sale.

Questions I Have
1) I plan on not buying the putting sensor assuming it can be added on later if necessary? Are there any design factors that should be considered for adding the sensor later? (or would you suggest just buying the sensor day one?!)

2) Any recommendations on a hitting mat? I will have both lefty and righty players. My flooring is 3/4’ turf but it seems like I’ll need to put a mat down as well to accommodate the sensor. 3) Are the side nets/shades necessary? The room will be dark. I was going to just build a frame out of EMT tubing. Representative image attached.

4) Can anyone help me out with PC recommendations? I took the Mac pill many years ago and have no handle on what the best system for TGC would be and where to buy. Appreciate any guidance here!

4a) Do you guys use touch screens? I was originally going Skytrak (actually Opitshot than Skytrak but that’s another story) because of the iPad iOS capability. I can’t see doing a lot of pointing and clicking while playing golf. How do you manage it?

5) Where does the floor mounted camera go? Can it be moved when not in use? Kids will be in and out of the area and I’d hate to see it kicked/damaged.

I'll take a shot at answering your questions:

1) I have the ProTee system and I do not have the putting attachment. With the latest updates, etc. I personally believe the base ProTee unit does a great job a putting. I believe it is very accurate even down to 3 footers.....Before the updates, I think the attachment was much more needed....but today I don't...just my 2 cents.

2)Would not get too caught up in this. As long as it is level with the hitting mat and looks good.....

3) I have a 10x10x5 enclosure and the side panels do catch the occasional shot. I have attached photos. If you don't care about your walls then you can go with the nice, clean look of a flat screen.

4)Don't get a touch screen. The best thing is to get the air keyboard app for your ipad. It is free. You can see how I mount my ipad in my photo...very nice app, I use it everyday.

5)Look at my photo and you can see the floor mounted camera...basically behind the golfer about 7-9 feet and about 1-2 ft towards the net.....or you can go on the right side relatively in the same area....You could move it when not in use if you had well marked spot or some kind of rig where you snapped in back in place.

Gene - hello and thanks so much. Funny enough your layout is one of my "models" we're working from. Looks great, even down to the kegerator that's on my "must have" list! Dumb question, but I was under the impression that TGC needs a big beefy PC? How does the iPad fit in? Thanks so much for your responses. Reading through this forum has really been helpful. ~ Chris
