8ft ceiling, standing 8 or 9 ft away does that work? Ben q 1085st just bought!

Hey guys I'm NEW! I just bought a ben q 1085st for $739 NEW from Shane. My room has a slanted roof with 8 ft ceiling which isn't an issue for me. At 11 ft wide I can project a 6ftish display. I want to keep the 16:9 over the 4:3 setting correct? It looks like the projector will need to go around 7ft 6 inches away from the wall to display the picture.

My question is if I'm standing 8 or 9 ft away from my wall do you guys think I will hit my drive too high or my irons? I am going to keep the projector in front of me and I still need to buy a custom screen once my room is all finished. I am hoping to be done with 3-4 weeks. Thanks for any and all advice!

I'm standing about 9ft away and have a 10ft ceiling.
The projector is pretty much right above my head... but a golf club will never be directly above your head.

Whether you project in 16:9 or 4:3 is entirely up to you. Depends on the space available for the impact screen and your preference.

As far as how high the ball will strike the screen also depends on how you launch the ball. Some of us launch higher than others. A simple calculation - 8 feet away from an 8 foot screen: 45 degree launch hits at the very top of the (8 foot) screen; 22 degree launch hits half way up, or at 4 feet from the ground. 8 feet for an impact screen is on the low side as most sim installations try and keep the screen height closer to 10 feet because of the higher lofted clubs.

8 ft high ceiling may be a bit low. I have a 9 ft ceilings and one of my friends barely scraped his driver on the ceiling. but it's only happened that one time. With an 8 ft ceiling hitting driver may be a stretch.

I agree that hitting plastic balls from where you plan to hit relative to the screen is a good way of assessing whether an 8' screen will work for you. Even if you were hitting too high up (relative to the screen) you could always install some sort of ceiling baffle to address those shots. I was surprised to see how low the average launch angles of the pros are. For instance, a pitching wedge launches at an angle of just 24 degrees.

If you swing like the pros, at least with respect to launch angle, you should be fine hitting from 8 feet away on an eight foot screen. However, as stated by others above, we all have different launch angles based on how we swing so... it depends. Hence the recommendation to hit plastic balls to see what happens. Hitting nine feet away from my screen (plastic balls into a makeshift screen), my sand wedge goes about 7'- 8' high. I'd be interested to see other's thoughts on this issue.

if I hit a 60 yard lob wedge with the intention of putting on some serious back spin as the flag is front of green I will or could miss screen on a 9 foot screen done it a few times.

I have a 8 ft high screen and don't have any issues. I actually have my net overlapping the top emt pole and attatch it to my ceiling with loop screws so when I hit a lob it hits the net. but I have a 9 ft ceiling though. with an 8 ft ceiling don't know if that would work.

I put up a sheet tonight and stood 12 ft away and I was very pleased. My 7 iron went around 7 ft high. I hit my pw and it went around 5 to 6 ft high. I only had time to hit maybe 10 shots at those two clubs. The benq 1080st will be around 8ft away so it sounds like I won't have an issues. I tend to like closing the club face on my pw at times. For what it's worth my pw is my 125 club and 9 iron 150, 7 170... if that matters to anyone wondering. I'm an avg golfer nothing amazing. Somewhere in the mid 80s normally.

Instead of guessing just use height hit on screen = distance from screen x tangent of your launch angle. The launch angle you can get from whatever launch monitor you are using.
