    Handicap

Can someone help explain the handicap system used in TGC, please? After finishing Q school TGC indicated my handicap was 36.4, which I thought was a bit high, but I know I have lots of room for improvement. After playing practice rounds at Merion and some other courses I had a handicap of 23. Now after completing my first round of the John Deere Classic my handicap is listed as 16.8. I appreciate any feedback you guys can offer.

Shardak Thank you for the feedback. That is great to see the data from my rounds. I guess I don't understand the handicap system as well as I thought. My best round was 17 over and probably involved some luck to get that, so it is assumed that my potential is to score better? The bigger question is regarding the discrepancy between seeing three different handicap scores depending on where I am in TGC.

Tour handicap is not related to the handicap you see in TGC. TGC calculates its own handicap on every course you play. That is not used at all when playing in the weekly events hosted on this forum.

The Tour handicap is the average of your 10 best differentials, multiplied by 0.96.

The biggest flaw with this is that all courses are rated at a 113 slope.

I would say its a good enough system for sim golf. I dont know what would be involved in getting more accurate slope ratings for the courses we play, but that would make it better.

We standardized all course ratings based on easy medium or hard then used USGA guidelines for handicapping. TGC rates courses automatically based on the scores and with console players scores are low making the ratings really low. TGC handicapping is really off. The tour handicapping is better.
