Straight Putt Setting

Is that a SkyTrak only thing? I started watching people play. What I noticed is they aim and then try to hit a straight putt. I have an eyeXO. I have not bothered with aiming previously. Just aim at the screen for the amount of break. After watching I realized that I should aim and try to hit it straight. Easier to putt and I can see how well I'm actually hitting my line versus intended line.

After watching I realized all the putts were straight even if the putter path was not. That made me realize they all must have this "straight putt setting" on.
Then I realized most of these guys were hammering it and playing less break and making everything. OK not everything but making way more than I do. That made me realize this straight putt setting is a huge advantage over what I'm doing.

I was wondering if I can set that with my Uneekor. I was thinking I might try it on some tournament play. I'm not sure if i would leave it on or not. The eyeXO to me gets my putts right. Putts that I think I pushed are going left (I'm a lefty) and pulls going right.

Pretty sure it would save me 5 shots a round if I had a "straight putt setting". Not that it would put me on the leaderboard, I'm no where close to as good as the leaders. But I still thought it would be fun to be on a level playing field. I don't know if I would leave it because I don't really want to think I'm hitting all putts straight when I'm not but for some tourneys it would be fun. But let's face it. If I could set it and it lowered by sim score. I would get addicted to the lower scores and leave it.

I will say overall sim has been eye opening. I hit my irons way more on the heel than I ever realized (explains my "occasional" shank issues). I suspected my driver might be broke because it started rarely feeling solid. Sim revealed my driver and 3 wood were the getting the same max ball speed. Went to golf galaxy where I saw the new drivers were getting 10 MPH better ball speed on my best shots and way more consistent ball speed. So of course I have a new driver on back order right now. Don't even get me started on launch angle, I'm in the process of completely overall hauling my swing to bring down launch angles down. So glad the new drivers are adjustable so I can change and not have to buy a new driver when I'm done.

Straight putting option on TGC does level the playing field. When it first came out, I tried it, thinking that it may give an advantage. If you are a decent putter, it won't make much difference. I went back to using what the sim detects. This adds a level of realism to the game. Also, it is nice, not having to go to the keyboard all the time for putting. If your sim measures HA accurately....why not use it to improve your putting game. Over the last 5 years....my putting is probably the thing that has improved the most.

Guess I will search. Sounds like I can set it. Unless you happen to know how and can tell me. I would agree that it's better to have it on. But based on what I see, I don't see how it can't be an advantage. I'm an above average putter, not great, not bad. What I see are people who are not afraid of 10 foot come back putts and the affect that has no putting. The straighten out a bunch of putts and have a system that it always starts on line. How can that not be an advantage.

I could see how it might not be that big a deal because I will admit just overall putting on the sim is way easier than in real life but I still miss 15' sim putts that are fairly or perfectly straight. With this setting you would never miss those. Big benders it's no help at all. Uphill more help than downhill. Who wants to leave themselves a 30' comeback. By chance did it come out this spring? The reason I ask is that I see a land shift in top scores around that time.

The reason for the patch is that the Skytrak isn't great at reading horizontal launch angle for putts, so even if you hit one perfectly straight it will read as 4 degrees left or something. And it just makes for some wonky putting. The patch is a correction that allows all putts to start on line. They won't move until influenced by break.

While it certainly helps, you still have to accurately set the amount of break using the keyboard and then also get the speed accurate. If you hit it too hard it will bounce out of the cup. So it's not true that you will "always make those." It's not like you can just hammer it as hard as you want. IMO, it only makes a big difference on the dead straight putts.

Just try it and see for yourself. Open the settings folder (not the icon you use to open the game but a separate icon that was installed at the same time). Go to straight putt patch and change to "On."

When you start TGC 2019.... before clicking on "start game" click on settings.... it will open up a text file... change "Putting Straight= OFF" to ON. and when you close that file, it will ask you if you want to save it......click yes.... Give it a try. It is an advantage to have it. Some sims need it and anyone is welcome to try it.

Straight putting has been around for about 2 years.... It came out because Skytrak has some trouble with HA. It actually made me check my own sims HA..... Happy to report that my HA is accurate +/- 0.13 degrees. I rolled a ball down a rail, multiple times to test mine.

That's a good idea. I will try rolling mine. I know it's pretty close, will be good to see how close. Plus every time calibrate the Uneekor I really should make sure i know what straight is for a putt. The more I think about it the more I think I should not bother. It's just a vanity thing. Wanting to get the best possible score. My vanity is already been put in check with sea level yardages. I grew up at 3500 ft and have played very few real rounds below that elevation.
