  • Tie Breakers

In the event of a tie, either in a regular tournament or in a match play round. 4 choices:

1: Divide the hdcps by 2 and round down, then play the front 9. If still tie, play the back 9. Repeat if needed.

2: Start at hole #1 and play 3 holes. Continue on the next 3 holes if needed, and so on...etc..
The difference in hdcp will determine how many strokes to give to the higher hdcp player(for each 3 holes). Use the following method:

If difference is 1-3, then give 0 stroke.
    If 4-6, give 1 stroke.
    If 7-10, give 2 strokes.
    If 11-15, give 3 strokes.
If 16 and above, give 4 strokes.

3: 3 hole playoff using #2's method. Play 16th, 17th, and 18th. If still tie, then use the scorecard from the original round, starting at #1 hdcp hole. Use hdcp accordingly.

4: Use the scorecard. Start at #1 hdcp hole.

    Thoughts?

#2 may be quicker. Both are good so I am fine either way. I pick number 2.

Why not just use the score card and go back to the #1 hdcp hole then #2 if needed. That's how every tournament I have ever played in is decided. I think there is only a few of us that can golf at will. Most have a tough time scheduling 2 rounds for a given week. Scheduling another match is not needed in my opinion. And the bad part is it could be only 3 holes if you use #2 method. I think there is going to be some mad wives over this deal and lord knows we don't need anymore of those in this world.

I like #2. Sudden death playoff three at a time. Not really any time constraints for getting the playoff in, so if it slips a bit we just won't have the final outcome for a while.

Its no big deal to me either way. I was just thinking of the poor souls who love this as much as we do but have kids and a demanding wife to contend with. I can come and go as I please. But I know its not that way for everyone. So what ever you do keep the group as a whole in mind. Not just the fortunate ones. Loosing on the card is a hard pill to swallow. But loosing because your wife tells you that you play to much already and you have to forfeit. Well lets just say "Trouble is a brewing". Next thing you know your down one participant. Or you have another fortunate one that can play anytime he wants. If you get my drift.

Scorecard playoff, or 3 hole playoff. Nine holes is a bit too much for me.

Added a 3rd option. Using the scorecard alone is no fun to me.

3: 3 hole playoff using #2's method. Play 16th, 17th, and 18th. If still tie, then use the scorecard from the original round, starting at #1 hdcp hole. Use hdcp accordingly.

Your Funny.....I bet if you asked any player (pro or not pro) who has ever played in a play off if he had fun (even if he won) I think the answer is going to be NO.

But with that said... I casting a write in vote for "The Card"

I agree with Tom. Gotta go with the card. There is no guarantee that two guys schedules will line up. This is for fun, I don't want to be in a situation where I'm stressing to get get a playoff in. Most all am tourney ties go to the card and so should we.

I was going to suggest a 3 hole playoff - if its still a tie-then use the card-
short playoff is nail biting- but we have to be reasonable too- 9 hole playoffs are too much-

as a follow up-- how many ties have you seen so far?- if 2 guys are battling it out like that i dont think they would have a problem with another 3 holes.

Scorecard meaning you will go up the 2 players card from hole#1 until someone beats the other? If so I vote for this but in reverse. I think it should be the last hole that's the first tiebreaker. That way everyone knows to finish strong if they think they are in a good position.

Have not had a tie yet and this is our second year. But we've been adding more players each week.

So, you are voting for #3, THARN?
