Gross leaderboard vs Net leaderboard vs both.

There has been talk occasionally of running 2 leaderboards. The tour has a net leaderboard in which each player plays against their own handicap. While this gives everyone a chance to win with 2 above average rounds, it is difficult for the scratch golfers to show well. The scratch golfer will not have a chance against a 12 handicapper that has a couple of great rounds. I have only used my sim a lot since August. Prior to that I had a shoulder injury that prevented me from playing. Now that I can play a lot (160 rounds since the end of August) I might hold the title of most improved, which means that I have recently showed very well on the net leaderboard. Now that I have had my handicap dropped, my days at the top will be limited. I would really like to set my goals on the gross leaderboard. Okay, I am no threat to the best golfers here but I would be ecstatic if I were to come in the top 3-6 on the gross board. I feel that everyone would benefit from a dual board. Scratch golfers would feel the satisfaction of actually winning and your high handicapper will be happy when they finally put two rounds in the 70's back to back to finish first. Not sure how to work the scoring but that is something that could be discussed prior to the next tour starting. Thanks ProTee for running a great tour.

Not a bad idea. Right now we just give points based on net score. What do you suggest?

Keither5150 I have suggested this multiple times and for some reason it hasn't been added. The conversation always degrades into something about handicap reflecting the gross scoreboard. I still don't get that one. It should be very simple, but it still isn't implimented. I have decided to quit playing the tour after having the lowest score in 3 tournaments in a row only to see me on the 2nd page of the leaderboard in each. I have never played a round IRL using handicap either way so I am very biased against handicaps anyway. I have limited time to play and just want to play the courses I want to play going forward. Hopefully their will be a gross scoreboard at some point, but until then I am going to take my ball and go home.....ha.

Roger do you suggest having 2 different leaderboards and winners/points etc.
Same events but now we post Net leaderboard and Gross leaderboard.

Yes, I have suggested that multiple times. I don't see what the issue would have been to create that right away.

I'd be good with gross and net.

As someone who's about to be joining the tour, I love the 2 leaderboard idea. We had a handicap and non-handicap division in our Optishot league. Everyone played the same tournament, we just scored it both ways. It went over very well. The gross and net leaderboard means you don't have to split everyone up yet those who would like to compete against other minus the handicap also get that option. Great idea! Would be thrilled to see this happen.

If 2 leaderboard is not possible, what about flights? Seems like with Skytrak getting TGC, there are a lot more players, so 10 person flights could be feasible. Not sure how to implement that with season scoring and fluctuating handicaps.

The easiest way that I can see is to have 2 leaderboards. Because the handicap system is always changing and never that accurate when there are so many 10-25 handicappers. There are numerous ways to combine them into one. You could keep the point system the way it is and add points for lowest gross score. We could use the Northern trust tournament as an example. JH12 shot a -3 gross and came in 16th place. If points were given for gross and net and then combined, JH12 would have a better chance of winning. Say the top gross player gets 50 and the next 45 and so on. Until you get down about to 9th or 10th. They will get 20 after that. Let's use JH12 and myself and the Northern trust winner as an example. JH 12 gets 50 gross and 20 net for a total of 70. I would get 32 gross and 20 net for 52. lipout had 50 for net and being a gross 25 he would have had a 20 for gross. A total of 70. Now I realize that the winner for net and the winner for gross would most likely have 70 points. The numbers are all there, they could test it out over the past 5 tournaments or so and see what the results are. We have about 6 weeks to propose changes to the next tour. It really should be equal between the top net and top gross player. Thoughts?

I think having 2 leaderboards, net vs gross with separate points and winners is the way to go.

Curious if we ever had a full on plan for this type of thing for the spring tour? I know we can check the net and gross scores, but are we gonna do separate points for each and combine them to equal one total score for each tournament or just gonna stick to the old system and give the handicaps a little more time to level out to everyone proper handicap as it would through time? I'm cool with either way but just didn't know if this topic went anywhere for major changes.

I like the money thing we are doing, but I'm guessing that's still pretty much the same thing as the point scale we were doing before

There will never be a combination of points. That is too heavily geared toward lower handicap players.
