Doing it for a tournament wouldnt kill us, same way we did it with the wind turned on and then decided against it, would be nice to give it a shot at some point.
I think this is a great idea. Try it for one or two tournaments (non-major) and then take a poll afterwards.

Hey ProTee - Is turning off rewinds something simple to do or would it have to happen in a software update? Is this a simple check box or would it have to happen on the honor system ( which obviously doesn't exist since we have 40% of the people wanting this removed )?

This was added to the software for a reason and removing it just doesn't make sense unless you don't trust the people you are playing with. People cheat IRL too - this a game! if you need to cheat to feel good about yourself so be it. I go under the assumption if someone rewinds they are doing it because they had a faulty read. Simple as that.

Maybe I am biased because I have a GC2, but it doesn't sound like most people are using that many rewinds. Personally, I think I lose several strokes a round because short putts bounce offline where my CCE hitting strip meets the rest of my mat. I literally make maybe one putt a round that isn't a gimme and have lots of 8 foot putts that miss by a foot or more left or right. I assure you that in real life I am a good putter and would rarely miss by more than a couple of inches. I have also accidentally conceded a par 3 when trying to exit which gave me a 10 in a tournament. I just chalk all that up to part of playing on a sim. At the end of the day, it is still amazing to me that I can play an online tournament against people all over the world inside my media room on world famous courses after my son goes to sleep. I write off misreads, putting problems, accidental concessions, etc under the category of "problems that I am lucky to have."

Well said...... and there's no way to take back a conceded hole. Ouch. I did it on a practice round once..... hole 17..... going to exit and whoops. You are right, it is amazing but a little frustrating when it's not working perfectly.

Andy..... Maybe some of the GC2 guys can help out with your putting issue. It's most likely that a firmware update is needed. That would suck if ball path wasn't accurate for putting. Putting works awesome on a two camera system. It actually has really helped me with my stroke and weight.

I have 3.10, which everyone seems to think is fine. I think the problem is with my homemade stance platform. I used carpet that matched the rest of the room for everything except the 10 x 18 CCE strip that I recessed into the platform. Since the room also serves as a media room, I was trying to make the hitting platform blend in as much as possible. If I ever move and can get a dedicated area, I will be doing one of the large hitting mats that other people use. I tried to get the top of the CCE strip to line up with the carpet, but the mat fibers curl over at the edge so the ball sort of bounces when it hits the edge of the carpet. At some point I may re-do the platform with one of the longer strips so that the ball has more room to roll. I mainly like working on my full swing and pitching on the sim anyway, so I'm not too concerned about it. I guess I was just surprised at how strongly people felt about rewinds and wanted to balance the conversation with some input from someone who still has a good time despite some of the shortcomings. Maybe I'm just not competitive enough though

the issue is the mat. 3.10 is fine. It needs to roll flat a couple of feet.

I had similar issues with the CCE and putting. I never took a rewind but thought I should have on a few. I switched to the truestrike mat and this seems to have gone away for the most part. With the truestrike I get a huge bounce/jump at the end of the hitting surface so I don't think that is the issue. I don't know what is causing it but I suspect the mat. Maybe a descending blow with the putter and the ball hops slightly? ( thinking spungy bounce from the mat material - maybe ) Dunno but it sure is frustrating when it happens. It would be interesting to get some close up videos of putting but I never got around to doing that. Also, focusing on an ascending blow seemed to help. Could be firmware in your case too, as keither said, so make sure you are on recommended version.

I will have to try moving the ball forward an inch or so to get more of an ascending blow. How long does the ball roll on your truestrike before reaching the edge? Mine is only on the CCE for maybe 9 inches. Also, I agree that the spongy material might be contributing. Sometimes the fibers will get pushed around so the surface isn't perfectly flat. Then the ball can roll a tiny amount from where I place it to settle into a slightly lower spot, not unlike how DJ's ball moved as he went to address it at the US Open on Sunday. I could imagine that an ascending blow would help lift it out of the depression better so it would hold its line. The CCE strips are still on sale on their website, but I don't really feel like rebuilding my whole stance platform haha.

I'd have to go measure but I would say it's 12-14" inches or more. The GC2 is done reading it before it hits that section for sure. I suspect this more of a technique issue than directly a mat issue. It would explain why some of us have issues and others don't.

Oh, don't forget to assess yourself a 1 stroke penalty if you are causing the ball to move! LOL

I have a CCE hitting strip and a GC2. I don't have any issues with putting.

I'd be fine getting rid of rewinds. I think the errors kind of cancel themselves out. Sometimes get a good break; i.e. top a 3 wood, and it doesn't register, then hit one well and it doesn't register. It'd be good to try. Plus, it would increase the pace of play

Looks like the community is split roughly equally. Protee - worth running at least one event with it turned off - right?

I am not sure if it is that easy to just turn them off. I guess we could ask people not to use them and have ProTee run a report after showing rewinds.
I had two rewinds during the last event. Both were driver club head. That kind of misread is really rare. I think if I reduce my maximum ball size I might be able to eliminate that one. It has happened 3 times during the last two events. And maybe 3 times during my last 100 rounds.

protee user here. i voted to keep rewinds and i would think people using hardware more susceptible to misreads would vote to keep. i have dialed in my settings as well as i can but i still get regular misreads. here is a rundown of my misreads from round 1 at oakmont. https://youtu.be/7IV0YzoMMM0

4:21 Took an easy swing w/lob wedge and it carried 71yds. Usually that shot goes around 50yds. Most likely a misread but did not rewind.

36:52 Hit a 7 iron out of the sand that carried 161yds and showed a club speed of 101mph which is way too high. took a rewind and hooked the next shot which carried 137yds and showed 96mph club speed which is still too high but i figured i should just move on.

45:47 Bladed a chip that didn't even get airborne but the sim shows a nice shot that pops up over the rough and rolls to within gimme distance. took a rewind and hit the next shot with my putter to just roll it forward in the rough.

48:20 Hit a drive low and left that still carried 230yds. i suspect this would have been a duck hook irl which goes no further than 100yds but i rarely see that result on the sim probably bc mine does not measure spin. i did not rewind.

49:38 Hit a decent lob wedge from the rough but it carries 100yds. Took a rewind and bladed the next one which ends up going just about as far.

Hey since we have this cool new voting feature can we do one for wind? Why did wind go away? If we disable rewinds then bring back the wind!!

There was a thread and everyone said get rid of it. The problem with wind is you can't pick the wind, the designer does. Sometimes you get 30pmh wind and it's crazy. If there's enough interest we can look at it.

I remember the thread. I personally liked the wind. It made it more interesting, ya know like real golf. Since a lot of our courses are tweaked for ProTee couldn't the wind be addressed as well? Eh, not that big of a deal just thought it would be interesting to see what the results of a poll would yield.

I find it interesting that this many guys want it off. Do you guys really think some folks are cheating that badly? I get that there's a guy or two that's abusing rewind once or twice a round, but that's not really going to change the outcome. Those cheats end up getting factored into the handicap after a few rounds and then become meaningless. Do you guys think there are guys rewinding 5-10 or more times a round? I've rewound twice in any tournament, none of which were in the past year. 1 was a clear mishit that went a foot in the game after I crushed the ball, and the other was a 350 yd drive in game, that was really a 130 yard shank. I really wanted to leave that one, but I like to see my stats and I want them to be accurate. 👍 I just can't see it being worth the trouble to rewind on a bunch of bad hits. Giving it a go on one round is a good idea. A better idea would be showing the numbers of guys rewinds for the tourneys. That would shakeout the cheating while still maintaining the ability to legitimately deal with issues? Overall this will not effect me at all as I'm a terrible golfer. 😂

The more that I read about everyone's opinion, the more I find myself on the fence. If you take them out, the score will eventually be worked into the handicap. If a player averages 1 rewind per round..... it has already been factored into the handicap. I would find it more frustrating not being able to rewind. I am not sure if I mind that the odd person might abuse it. I played IRL last night with some hockey buddies. One guy hit two into the trees 20 yards from the tee. He couldn't find them so he dropped one. He then lost that ball, and dropped another. Two shots to get on the green and 1 putt. I was keeping score and I asked him what he got....... triple bogey. so I wrote it down. I was on in two but 3 putted for a bogey. Another guy in our group always found his ball in the trees.... about 6 times..... that's impressive considering the 10 inch high grass. Long story short......both of those guys beat me..... But really..... I wasn't playing against them..... I was playing against my average score on that course which is in the high 80's low 90's..... Didn't quite get there last night. The wheels fell off on the last 4 holes. My drives were good but I was pulling my short irons.

Soon the data will be available for all to see. We will see if somebody has 5 putts to make a par.

I think part of the problem with the wind was that a lot of people didn't even realize it needed to be turned on themselves or never even saw it was part of the event until well afterwards. If it was something that could automatically be turned on for everyone and within control I wouldn't have a problem with it

I doubt guys are rewinding but the only way to be 100% sure no one is rewinding is no rewinds. I'm ok either way but we wanted to see people's thoughts.
