  • Protee VX Wish List

I finally had some time to play around with some settings and experiment more with the VX last night and it made me think of a wish list as the software continues to be developed. A lot of these things have already been confirmed to be in development in some form so hopefully it's just a matter of time.

    1. The big one for me is still the ability to have the range and summary tabs run on two screens. I like the VX range a lot. Especially since it's ready to go a whole lot faster than it takes me to get TGC opened, connect it, navigate to the range, etc. But beyond that, I like the layout, I like the apex and distance pop ups and just the general feel of the VX range. I discovered, or re-discovered since Protee had shown me this in a demo, that I could get the data boxes to show up on the same screen as the range. You click on the "Always on Top" option in the settings and the data will overlay at the bottom of the range screen.

This is a good 80% solution for me. I love having the impact video, but most of the time like last night I'm most interested in the swing path, speeds, and I just like watching the ball flight after taking a shot. If there's something funky at impact that I want to see I can always switch tabs and check it out. It's not bad until Protee can figure out the 2 tab and split screen option.

As a half measure, it would be cool if you could also have the impact video box as an option that could be always on top on the range also. If it could show up on the right side of the screen above the data boxes where nothing else is going on that would be pretty sweet.

    2. While playing around in screens I also saw an option to change the range hardness and one of those options now says Green. There's even a stimpmeter slider in there as well. My thought was this would be really cool if it simulated hitting into a green rather than just showing normal fairway roll. It didn't turn out to work that way though. I'm assuming this mode is for putting practice as the total distance converted to feet rather than yards.

It's an interesting option for putting since you can dial in different green stimps and work on distances, but just not something I'm likely to use much. But if the whole range acted like a green and gave you a better feel for rollout after landing on a green that seems like it would be a nice feature. Maybe the Fairway Soft setting simulates that closely enough, but I haven't messed with that yet and have just been using Fairway Medium.

    3. Finally, it's Shot Recording, dispersion data, bag mapping, etc. This is also been acknowledged as something they're working on and there is already a Shot Recording checkbox in the software, but that data isn't accessible for now. Hopefully this is one coming soon as it seems to be a pretty standard feature on other LMs I've used.

Still loving the VX and like I said, a lot of these things are supposedly in development. What concerned me was looking at the changelog none of them were really listed as coming features. Most of those were all centered around AI improvements. I'm sure that'll be great, but as I keep using the VX more I keep hoping we'll see at least #1 and #3 rolled out sooner rather than later.

The shots of your friend during game play (in TGC, GSPro, E6, etc) can not be stored separately. There is no nickname link (yet) between a game engine and labs.

The setup is crazy simple. You throw down the calibration board and click a button to “calibrate world”. That’s it. However, it is assumed that the lines on the calibration board are perpendicular to the screen. When I first put mine down, I eyeballed it to make it square. But think about it. 1 second on the clock face is 6 degrees. So if you are off even slightly then the launch monitor has 0 degrees being off a little. For me, I know from multiple launch monitors that my swing path is approximately 5 degrees in-to-out when I am swinging well. On the Protee VX, I was seeing 10 degrees in-to-out.

Last night, I took a laser level. I put the calibration board running down the left side of the center boxes (and repeated on the right). I used a black marker and made a dot on my hitting mat and then drew a black line on the edge of my putting green. By having these dots I know exactly where the zero degree path is. Next, I used the laser that was also shining down the line to the screen and adjusted Prolabs and GS Pro so that the centerline was exactly lined up with my tee location.

For alignment purposes, this is no different than what I do on the course. I pick the spot in front of my ball and setup around releasing over that spot (or just to the right/left depending on shot shape).

Because my setup is offset, this guarantees what I am seeing on the projector matches up with square to the screen.

After going through this process numbers are exactly what I expected. All is right in the world. Note. I realized that the first two dots will go away as I am hitting shots. I added three more dots behind them further back than where I normally hit. It turns out that works great for putting on the simulator games because I can line up from the dot to the line on the edge of my putting green. Makes putting miles better too.

Are you resizing the hitting areas after clicking on "calibrate world", or are you just leaving what it finds and clicking next?

I'm also wondering if you can use more of the hitting area (like when you setup an Eye XO 2, you have the option to add additional sensing areas for the trouble turf, etc)? My current bay is a little narrow so the hitting location is offset, and I'd like to have a different area for lefties that would still be in the 23" x 20" sensing zone, but obviously outside of the calibration board....

dw886 I make it as big as it can be. I have a hitting strip between two 5x5 hitting mats and it covers the hitting strip and extends on both sides. I usually use the hitting strip for irons and for drivers I tee it up just outside of the hitting strip.

I'd be interested to as to what setup error was involved?

It’s not an error. I described earlier in the thread. It’s user error. I placed the calibration board on the ground and eyeballed “square”. Compared to this time, I used lasers to align the board. Using lasers guaranteed I was square meaning the zero degree path is precise. There will always be some play in alignment if you don’t hit the ball from the exact spot. If you look at my two front dots and the mark on my putting green, I’d I place the ball inside/outside of mark, then the zero point moves correspondingly. However, in using the laser, I also made the center dot perfectly in line with the driving range on gspro and labs software. I will also do it with TGC 2019 when I reinstall.

How about adding a putting improvement program, or putting analysis? Also, a shot optimizer would be great.

I don't have mine yet but agree with both of those watching the ball spin, it would seem that putting wouldn't be much of a reach,

I would also like to have club low point.

Yeah. I think there are some issues with the AI when it comes to club/face data. I am seeing that is especially true with putting. The ball data looks good, but the club data is off. I did notice that the type of putter I use also makes a difference. My thinner blade type putters are more accurate than my bigger mallet type putters. I have spoken to Protee about it and they are looking at it. Same is true on wedges. Based on my discussions with them, I think they are taking the data when people send in information and using it to evaluate.

I agree there's something up with the club/face data. I'm seeing shots that in the impact video clearly show it off the toe, but the face data thinks impact is high middle or something else. I've also seen some weird attack angle things.

Like you said, ball data seems fine and the shot shaping appearance matches what I'm feeling with the swing. It just doesn't seem very good yet at figuring out exactly where the ball hit the face.

I mentioned this in a review I just posted, but one improvement I would like to see if when there is a bad reading on spin - the system somehow calls it out (similar to the italics in trackman). While it doesn't happen often, it would be nice to know without looking at the club data, then video of the spin to confirm the mis-read.

A down the road add which would be great is swing camera integration. Taking that further with a more ambitious feature would be to use the AI to provide swing analysis.

I think Protee and their team are amazing. Updated program all the time and gets better really fast! KUDOS! So happy with my investment in the VX

Need to update my wish list with fixed things an add a new one

                    1. Fix Gspro putting that is way too fast. Might be a Gspro problem but even then Protee could have an option to slow it down. - FIXED!
                    2. Swing camera integration. Think they are working on that.
                    3. Would like to have club speed and ball speed in MPH/Imperial and rest in metric. Most of Europe measures golf figures that way. - FIXED!
                    4. Option to make Protee Labs auto connect to Gspro on startup.[/QUOTE]
                    5. Dispersion map/chart for different clubs when practising on the range

I think being able to have the range and the summary tabs on seprate screens would be really great. Your first point.

Would love to see the tabs to be loaded into separate windows so I can display the range and once screen, ball data on another and swing and club video on a 3rd, without the need to run GSPro of TGC 2019 (which still leaves me on view short..)

This shouldn't be too hard to do as it doesn't really require a lot of feature level programming, just presentation logic :-) .

This is already possible. You can drag any tab out of the main window and reposition to any other screen.
