  • VX Launch angle

I am confused as to why my VX appears to report a lower LA than the impact screen is showing. I have my screen moderately tight but I can see a small dimple when I take a shot. I have a laser pointer that I place on to inclined gauge blocks that are calibrated to 15 and 20 degrees. I can take a variety of clubs and shots and easily see the impact LA . The VX consistently reports several degrees less than actual. Consequently, I can not be sure if a new technique or practice is having the desired effect. FYI,When I play out side my LA appears normal and my carry is within expectations.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

I would've assumed the calibration would account for that to a certain degree. I think it mentions something in the setup about level but up in the air with brackets and everything else going on I wasn't sure how that was supposed to work. And level to what? If the unit is level but the ground is not what happens to readings then?

My garage as most are not level as they slope down towards the door or front. Mine seems to slope about 1" for every 12'. I would still make the unit level with an actual level, not to the ground. Though it may require a slight tweaking, but essentially you are hitting into the air, and how many times have you considered if the ground outside you hit on is exactly level? Cause I'm betting it is not perfect.

I would assume it needs to be level to the ground. I would also assume most people are setting up their sims on level ground?

Am glad you got your issue resolved. I recently moved to the ProTee VX instead of a Mevo Plus. I found the launch angle between the Mevo Plus and the VX were pretty similar, but the angle of attack (AoA) was much more negative on the VX. I took the Mevo Plus to the range and found the vertical launch angles at the range were a lot higher than indoors and my carry numbers were a good 10-15 yards more at the range then inside. I need to do some more testing but that's what I have noticed so far.

After reading these comments, I was also leaning towards making sure the mounting area is level and attaching the mounting plate remains level. When dealing with LA etc, it all would assume a level neutral starting point. Glad you figured it out. I am hoping to buy one of these units soon and will need to build out a 'LEVEL' mounting area as my garage ceiling is lower where I hit and 5ft higher where screen is, so I need to continue my 9'10" lower ceiling in order to get the 3.5ft distance from hitting area. I'll keep my skytrak for a while to compare data, even though I expect VX to be much more accurate.

You need to make sure everything is levelled as good as possible. The calibration will account for the couple of degrees of imperfection on the ceiling and on the floor.

What you don't want is the unit being tilted up or backwards too much, or when using a project mount (or something similar) the unit starts leaning forward of backward (or moving in any direction) after it's being calibrated.

We tested what will happen when the unit tilts forward of backwards after its being calibrated and we found that this has an effect on the launch angle.

For the record only the OP experienced this problem. We have not seen or heard about it from anyone else.
