Anyone else hit irons from the grass area?

Now that I've been using PT 5 for vcam and learned a bit more about shutter speeds-(thanks to Zmax)
I have been hitting my irons and fairway woods from pretty much anywhere in front of the white tee holder and actually on the front sides too. I still get accurate readings- so now I only use the tee area for teeing it up- otherwise im hitting from the nice turf area and it has made it much more enjoyable for me.
Also -when i have others come over and play- i dont have to cringe every time they hit a fat one and almost take the rubber tee holder out of commission.
Have any of you been doing this too?

Yes, it's ok to do that as long as you continue doing that. Your settings will adjusted for hitting from that position. Just don't switch back and forth from the grass to the tee location for irons.

You do lose a little bit of club face accuracy but might not be a big deal.

is there a ball speed issue with this. Seems like if the ball is closer to the ball track sensor than it would be calculating that it arrives faster than it really is. Might need to dumb down the ball speed numbers in the settings perhaps? I might try this out.

Yes, ball speed would need to be adjusted. Which was why I said you would need to continue hitting from that same spot for those clubs.

I tend to keep the ball around a half inch to an inch ahead of the tee spot area (unless on the tee)but i have about 3 inches on each side to put the ball and my readings are the same- still using pt1 on hcam but the angle is still picked up.
considering the sensor is picking up the club speed - ball speed might be a tiny different but not much-
and i find if you take the club back on the sensor and come back in the same plane- it reads it as square- on club face and swing path.
the benefit outweighs any negatives for me at this time--- really dont like the wear and tear on the mat - this way- I can help its longevity.
I'm thinking this probably works better because of the interface updates- new owner here so i dont know how it would of worked in the past.

I've actually started chipping from the grass area in front of the tee marker, and seems to work quite well. Other than low speed chips I still hit everything else from the tee area.

I'm a new Protee Owner and I like the idea of hitting in front of the tee holder, I tried it with several 6 irons tonight and I found that all my shots were going left. The club face was showing closed 1-2 degrees but the ball path would read 8-13 degrees left. I'm using the Vcam set at PT5 and the Hcam set at PT3, are there other settings I need to change in order to hit in front of the tee holder? I initially set the Vcam up on the PT1 setting and positioned the ball within the red box, now that I've switched the setting to PT5 the red box doesn't appear so I'm not sure the VCam is reading the start place correctly. Any suggestions? I've really enjoyed the system so far, this forum has been a great help in getting it set up and running.

I84 that's fine for your Vcam. The Hcam should be set to PT1. The other settings cause it to read the club streak more often instead of the ball streak.
