Is it ok to cover the putting sensor with thin outdoor carpet and cut out ample slots to the sensors. If ok what would the thickest material permitted. I can either use thin carpet or stance mat turf. 3/16 inch or 1/2 inch.

Outdoor carpet works best. Stance matt material is too thick, you want a nice roll on the ball between the sensors. I would think the fibers falling out into the sensor path would also be a pian. I just used outdoor carpet from lowes held down with carpet tape. Make sure you cut the slits small or the ball will bounce off of the edge. I put some maskng tape over the slots and painted the outline on the masking tape with a paint pen. Then lay down your carpet and transfer the paint to the carpet backing. You should then have a nice guide to cut your slits. -

We normally use the 1/2" turf in commercial setups. We cover the entire floor with it and cut out holes for the sensor mat and 2 slots for the putting mat.
Make sure the putting mat slots are wide enough. You should see a bit of the black plastic. Avoid turf blocking the sensors.
We also like to melt the edges with a heat gun, but be really careful when you do this!Comment
