    Club data

    Hi all,

I'm wondering about the accuracy of my club data. Basically I'm repeatedly getting closed clubface reading, with a seven Iron, of let's say 8 degrees with a straight path resulting in 40 to 50 yard misses to the right. The problem is that I'm only missing the pole by say 3 inches to the left , which from 11' would be about a 1 degree miss. Now when I really open up the clubface I get readings of say 6 degrees open. In several thousand balls I haven't seen one single shot with a square clubface. I know I have I some winter rust on, but as a low single digit golfer I usually don't miss a 7 Iron by 50 yards! Am I missing something in the settings? Also, given the new ball flight laws I don't know how it would be possible to miss my target by 3 inches from 11 feet yet have an 8 degree closed clubface, I would think that would be more akin to missing by 18 to 20 inches from 11 feet.

P.s. I should add that I have seen a square face on chip shots.

I'm also wondering how the system handles draws. I typically hit straight or a slight draw with low irons and hybrids. My typical ball path starts out slightly and draws back to the target. I'm consistently getting a club head open of 2 degrees with a straight club path or slightly in to out. The system then reads this as a push or fade. How could this be worked out?

Use my recommended settings for club face and path as a starting point. Then adjust as needed. To get more draw, increase club face to more closed or club path to more inside out. See the beta testing section.

I am a long time P3pro user and it has done well for me, I have a chance to upgrade to a seldom used Protee system that is being sold by a friend of a friend.
Anyway. I am wondering about club data. In particular ball impact position. As I understand it, Protee does not measure angle of attack or the height of the club above the sensor, I can see how it can measure club path and face angle and even the horizontal impact position of the ball on the face, but I can't see how it can accurately measure vertical ball impact position. Any have info on this?

It actually does have angle of attack but not in display. In the main interface screen it has it. ProTee is extremely accurate, I can scoop a pitch 20 yards or spin it up the fact and it will give accurate results, either biting or rolling out.

That is interesting. Do you know how this is accomplished? Have you compared the face impact results shown in the software with that shown on impact tape or the like?

I will leave that to them as far as how they accomplish it, they follow this forum so perhaps they will chime in. As far as comparing to tape, no. Never really had a reason to. I have been playing for 40+ years though and I have a good feel for that and can tell you it is spot on in that regard. Shot result and numbers are consistently what I call out as soon as I hit it.

Ok, thanks for the information. I would like to know how they accomplish the height measurement. For example, what sensors are used the measurement and what accuracy do they attach to those measurements. It's clear to me how they measure face angle and path, but how they measure the strike height on the face is not clear at all.

I also have played on a Protee system and the strike height seemed fairly good to me as well. Although, there were times when it seemed like I hit the ball thin and the software did not show that, so that is the main reason for my questions. To me, ball strike position on the face is the most important club parameter.

Well, first of all there is the vcam, second, there is the ball speed. If you hit the ball high on the fae, the ballspeed will be lower than if you hit it on the sweet spot. My unit has no issues letting me know when I hit it thin. Dont get me wrong, it does have it's limitations. This hits will record a bit higher ball speed on a thin shot than a properly struck ball. This is a matter of physics with a sensor unit. The ball takes less time to cross the sensor from the tee area at a lower launch angle. With that said, for the money, it is an awesome system. It does not have all the club data of an HMT or trackman but it has plenty for me, especially for the money.

The searches I have done also suggests Protee estimates angle of attack from vcam and other system data.
I have not turned up much on ball vertical impact position. Anyone know if they measure this or estimate it?
