  • Penalties for Bunkers and what's labeled.NOW FIXED

Have been having a lot of lost strokes due to the penalties for the bunkers and such not being what I thought.

I checked several courses and found that the "bunker" label changes from course to course. For example Pebble Beach has the green side bunkers called "bunker" but plays like my settings for green side bunkers while the fairway bunkers called "bunker" have the penalty for my fairway bunkers. All is well there, but other courses have all bunkers called "bunker" but use the fairway bunker penalty for all of them. Thus any green side bunker, without knowing, I would sail the shots too far and over the green.

Also we have noticed some heavy rough or long grass can have no penalty.

So the question: Is this a Red Chain thing or can Protee fix these things if we make notes and let them know?

My practice rounds from now on will be dropping balls in areas to see if they have penalty applied. By the way if you do plan to do this always note that the first time you drop a

It's both RC and Protee. But mostly RC. Please take a screen capture of the green side bunker that is not using the correct penalty and post them here.

I see this as sort of the same thing as regular golf. Hitting shots from these types of lies in real life changes from course to course. I'm not sure it needs 'fixing'. I guess its a matter of opinion though. That's weird about the practice round and hazards though. Thanks for the tip, I'll try a double drop next time.

Edit: I just got the part of the labels being wrong. That would be bad, I agree.

Yes it's Red Chain labeling. If you notice a different label on the bunker or rough/long grass etc. then post it in the suggestions so ProTee can add it to the list of settings.

It's not just a hole it the whole course. For example this weeks course "Fairmont Le Manior" has all the bunkers playing like a fairway bunker no matter what one. I think another I checked was congessional and it too was all fairway bunkers. The quick way I check is to set the fairway bunker penalty at 100% and you soon see if they are a green side bunker or a fairway bunker.

I guess one could just set them both the same but I have green side bunkers at 32% penalty to feel right and that might be a bit much for the fairway bunkers, although then there would be no guess then.

Also Bubba... for example Pebble Beach has all their bunkers listed as "Bunker" but the ones near the greens play like they should and the fairway ones play as they should so its not a matter of how they are labeled on th

That's the kicker as I set up the projector on a 2nd monitor so when I try to click for a screen capture I only get the main screen which is not the game screen.

Can't you go to Fairmont and get your own screen shot???

Can you guys with Protee set your penaties for green side bunkers and fairway bunkers separate? Mine are in the GSX settings.

I have found that the greenside bunkers behave according to your penalty setting up to the distance set for your chipping distance. For example, I have my chipping distance set at 35 yards. Beyond 35 yards my bunkers will behave like fairway bunkers even if the bunker is near the green. Perhaps this is what you are experiencing?

I am using a GC2 so we have the GSX section to adjust penalty. We have a green side bunker and a fairway bunker to adjust. I don't think I can use any other of the Protee settings for the GC2.

If you guys can set your bunker penalty by a yardage from the green then it is done differently than what I can do.

My apology. I didn't realize that GC2 users did not have the same options as ProTee users.

Another example is the match play course we are supposed to play, "Aronimink", has all bunkers no matter where they are playing as a fairway bunker.

So just to confirm that when you Protee users play this course, you can have your green side bunkers play with the proper penalty and fairway ones as well?

Is this then a GSX issue or just one never noticed as it sounds like with Protee, you can set a distance from the hole to trigger the penalty levels and not worry about the label.

Funny thing is that with Pebble Beach they still label all bunkers as "Bunker" but they all play like they should with green sides using the proper penalty as well as the fairway ones.

With Protee systems, the chipping/pitching settings might have taken over and we wouldn't have noticed anything.

Rick, you played Aronimink the other day, did you noticed the same issues with the bunkers as SFR?
