This is going to be more to question those of us who are using a GC2 with the GSX interface to play on Protee. The reason is that I think you Protee guys have the option to select a distance from the hole to go along with the penalty you want for bunkers.

In the GSX us GC2 guys can only select the penalty for green side bunkers and fairway bunkers. The problem is that most of the courses all seem to play all bunkers as the fairway bunker. Thus when we are in a green side bunker we think we should have a penalty of 32 or what ever is set but actually get what we have set for a fairway bunker, which is way less. Thus we clear the green with our green side bunker shot until we figure out that the course does not have the bunkers labeled right. So far the only one I have seen that works like it should is Pebble Beach. Of course I have not checked

This is all very technical and I can test with you later if its necessary but I'll say this. I have a GC2 with your settings and my green side bunker shots are big penalties. Say the bunker shot is 25 yards, i have to hit it at least 45-50 yards on the GC2 carry readout to get there. I'm always short from the green side bunkers. I play about double the shot distance and am always short playing double the yardage. I've never played a course where my green side bunker shots are air mailing the green, so I assume they are all correct.

It also depends what you have set for the fairway bunkers. In real life most times I would take one more iron when hitting out of a fairway bunker and if I pick it clean then the one club more comes out ok. I found that now to be close to 10%. But for a green side bunker with 32% a normal wedge shot of 50 yds would only go 34 yds. Again this is where we need to have all GC2 users give feedback and see if this feels right.

How are you finding the driver? Today I played with adding a more backspin to the driver and I think it looks better now compared to real life driving distance. I do find the driver and woods are hard to have the GC2 read. Someone said that with low spin shots the GC2 was off on.

Do that test sometime with green side bunkers at 100% penalty and see what happens.

Ya for fairway bunkers if I absolutely catch one clean, I lose 10%. If i hit one not so good the ball is going nowhere. Example is today. I was in a fairway bunker and absolutely nuked a 4 hybrid. GC2 said 190 carry and it went 176 or so. That was the best I could hit it.

For the driver, the course elements affect the shot alot. On flat holes the carry is similar on the GC2 and the Protee screen. Sometimes I'll nuke one and it will go less far, sometimes I'll hit one mediocre and it will roll further. I have no issues with sidespin and ballflight though. I find them very accurate. Low spin drives were an issue at first. I was hitting alot of high draws that were around 2000 and 240-250 carries. The protee software would get those wrong sometimes. Now I'm hitting more of a cut with 2500 and its much better. I also find that sometimes the rough penalty is not consistent. Usually its when I nuke an iron to try and launch one high. I'm not sure if its spin again but it wi

So your fairway bunker is taking 10% off the shots which is fine.

With regards to heavy rough, that is another area that there has been issues with no penalty at all. I had them set at 20% but its a real shock when they come out with full power and you already added 20%......

We just need to know this about each course if you want to play them without a surprise.

Yes, for sure. That's what practice rounds are for. Overall i'm very happy. I'm gotten used to putting a little more.

I can attest to that- last round online I had with Jeremiah -I was 98 from pin in heavy rough-
(set at 20% penalty) took a pw -normally go's 105 on a nice swing- so I hit it hard- hit it crisp and it went 135 yards- way over the green-- was already having a bad round- you can imagine - I did cuss a few times..lol

Yes Rough was working but heavy rough was not. I think those effect everyone and not just GC2 users.

I just added GC2 user to my profile name so that we can see who is using that method.

Can other GC2 users do the same. Time to come out of the closet.

some courses the rough is more than 20% some courses less even on my Protee. I have no idea why but that is the way it is. Thats why I make sure to play a practice round and I hit into spots I think i might end up in if I have a mishit. Take lots of mullies and try different clubs out of the tricky spots. One thing I make sure and do especially when we play wind is start a bunch of games and just play the par 3 holes. So I know what club to hit off the tee into the wind into a side wind and with the wind. Some times you have to start 6-10 games to get the wind in the direction you want it. But the bunker deal must be your GC2 because I have no troubles with that. As for the rough we all deal with it. Best thing is play the course and make notes just like Phil does.

Personally, I have never found any rough to behave like it is heavy rough. All rough, waste areas, scrub, desert, etc seem to use the regular rough penalty. I have always found the penalty to be the same for all rough areas (no variance). The same goes for bunkers; fw bunkers use the fw bunker penalty and green side bunkers use the penalty I assigned to them. Seems very consistent so far.

So then from the replies it seems that if you are using the reg Protee interface then you seem to have all bunkers working as they should and no issues.

For those of us that use a GC2 and can only use the GSX interface, then some courses may just not have the same penalty for green side bunkers so we need to watch for them and then play for the penalty we have applied to fairway bunkers. Or I may just set both of the bunker penalties the same and then no matter what at least I know what is to be applied.

As for the Heavy Rough and Rough, I think we are all in the same boat there and best is to have those practice rounds to check those things out.

I will try to get some info on courses where this happens. I am not sure screen shots will do much good as it is not so much on one hole or one area but the entire course where green side bunkers do not use the GSX setting for Green side bunkers. They use the fairway bunker setting. I can go through courses one by one and see which ones this happens in and list what they call their green side bunkers but not sure a screen shot is needed. I can do one of my GSX settings.

This is more how the courses label their green side bunker inside the software. The one example I stated was that Pebble Beach worked fine but the bunker were still listed on the screen just like every other course was

I think I figured it out today what is happening and we should not need to worry about screen shots.

When using a GC2 and GSX interface if you are in a bunker at 27 yds or less you will use the green side bunker setting that is applied but if you are in that same bunker at 28 yard or more away you will use the fairway bunker setting. So being that we can't set the distance is that somthing that Protee can do?
