  • Broken SkyTrak in the UK - Can anyone help?

My laptop/android phone/ipad cannot see my SkyTrak. I have tested on all 3 devices and the SkyTrak does not appear in the Wi-Fi list on any of the 3…

I have tried connecting in both direct and network mode with no luck. The Power LED is green, the WiFi LED is flashing red and the Ready LED is solid red. I have tried resetting the SkyTrak by pressing in the button at the bottom of the device using a paperclip (and holding for 10 seconds) but it does nothing…

I sent it to the UK support team (SkyHawke Technologies) in Haddenham and, bizarrely, it was working fine for them, so they sent it back. When I received it back, not only did the connection problem remain, but, the casing at the back of the SkyTrak had come away slightly – it looked easy enough to clip back in to be honest but, as I did not cause the problem with the casing, I decided it would be best to send it back to SkyHawke in exactly the same condition as I received it…

The SkyHawke team in Haddenham received it back (again!) earlier today and called me to say they cannot get it to work this time so will need to send it to the states in order to be repaired. They have told me it will cost £70 GBP shipping each way (around $180 USD in total) – and that’s the price without the repair added on!....

I was about to give them the ok to send it off to the states but then it occurred to me it may be something very simple such as a loose wire – a loose wire is pretty likely considering it worked the first time that I sent it off to the SkyHawke team – and if I can fix it myself it could potentially save me a fortune!... So this leads me on to the following question….

If I were to get SkyHawke Technologies to send the SkyTrak back to me, considering I am fairly technical minded, would it be easy enough to open up (it’s already half open now!) and check for loose wires or other problems? Is there anyone on this forum who could talk me through it?

If the above is a non-starter – does anyone know how much the repair is likely to cost? As Seth has suggested on another thread, it sounds as though it could be the Wi-Fi module that has been damaged – how much do these cost to replace?

How far out of warranty is the unit. I'm in the uk to and I had the wifi module go on mine and it was 2-3 weeks out of warranty and they just replaced the whole unit free of charge.

It's worth checking that the unit works in USB mode, to give you confidence that it likely is the wifi module.

Unfortunately it's about 6 months our of warranty

It doesn't work in USB mode either... so guess it may not be the Wi-Fi module. When I connect via a USB and load the SkyTrak app - it just says "Looking for connection"

I shanked a shot into the SkyTrak after a week of owning the ST and had to pay £50 I think to get it repaired. They had to send to the States for the repair.
Glad it was only £50 but after thinking about it 1. I bought it in the UK and paid an increased price so why should you pay to get it repaired in the USA? 2. It was a loose wire so why should I have had to pay for a loose wire?
I think I'm about ready to sell
