What's the most valuable improvement you've made to your game thanks to SkyTrak?

I've been a little bored with all the technical threads lately, so I ask you this: What's the most valuable improvement you've made to your game thanks to SkyTrak?

I haven't had my ST for very long, but the most important thing I've learned so far is I need to tee the ball up higher. I was discouraged by my driving distance, but I noticed my launch angle was around 9-10 degrees. I wasn't sure why so I slapped some impact tape on my driver and realized I was contacting the ball pretty low on the face. Once I tees it up with a 3.25" tee, my launch angle jumped to 12-14 and I gained 15-20 yards! I was very pleased with myself and the SlyTrak for that insight.

So what have you learned about your game?

I am trying to hone in my distance control from 20-100 yards. I now have a feeling for what a 20,30,40,...100 yard swing feels like. And I can test my wedge game in the skills assessment section to see the weakest yardage. Hoping to see positive results when I hit the course in a months time.

There has been a couple things for me. Knowing the exact (average) carry distance of ALL my clubs have really made club selection easier on the course. I have also noticed that my accuracy on shots into the green has greatly improved. I leave myself short chip shots and not 30-50 yard pitches and flops. I have yet to use the skills assessment feature, but I see the benefit of using it as moadhia stated above. I'm sure there will be more improvements the more I use it!!

Shallowing out my angle with driver and watching the spin lower to around 2200. Seeing the change in distance has been very helpful for me. From there, it's only further proven that I'm a choker when I take my game to the TGC tourneys and fall back into all of my bad habits. Lol! I do love the punishment though.

Hey, quick question if you don't mind. On the tournaments in TGC, do they use gimmies? I've only been playing around with TGC for a couple hours over a few days, (looking forward to a lot of fun with it this weekend!), and I notice I suffer from the "short putt issue" I've read about. Either I get a no read, or I hit it hard enough to read, and I blast it past the hole!

You are allowed to set up 6 foot gimmies. I believe this is because some LM's have a hard time picking up short putts. Personally, I think it takes away from realism, but not enough to ruffle any feathers over. Speeds up play as well. I used to have trouble as well starting at about 4 feet. Some no reads or the blast by the hole. 6 foot gimmies gets rid of this.

Thanks for the speedy reply! I plan on doing the Q-School thing, just to get a feel for the thing, and I am sure I will love it! That's the problem. I'll be living my life out in the garage!

My answer is based on 15 months of using a GC2 but it would apply to SkyTrak too.
Knowing carry distances for all clubs and developing muscle memory for 20, 30, 40, 50yd shots has been key. Using the GC2 with a CCE mat has also improved my ball striking no end.

Now that I play more often my misses are generally not so bad

YES! CCE mat improving ball striking will be huge for me once golf season kicks back up in the Midwest.

The nice thing is comparing the shot distance with my Game Golf and the satisfaction of the distances match up

2. Greatly improved distance control for short shots.
3. A better understanding of my misses. This is key for me because I have 15-16 good holes and then 2-3 terrible due to missing in the wrong place (e.g. gorse!).

FYI it was pretty much impossible to read your blog article on my iPhone with Safari - every time I tried to pinch zoom in to an image, or touch scroll, a different blog article would load. What I could read was great content, though.

GungHoGolf just tested on an iPhone and worked well. Don't pinch to zoom, just click on the images to enlarge and then pinch to zoom. Back closes the images.

I learned that not only does my "Over the Top" swing (knew I was bad but didn't know I was this bad) slice, it kills distance !!

Most of the above, plus immediately trying out tips from videos or the Golf Channel (such as importance of hands and wrists in shot shaping and distance and leading the right hand with the right elbow), and, I found the other day after hours of testing that my very old Ben Hogan Apex Plus two piece forged irons with steel shafts were much better than my Adams V4 hybrid irons with graphite...longer carry with higher trajectory, higher back spin and less roll out, much less dispersion from uncontrolled hook spin, and much better control of shot shape. One thing I love about the e6 sim is the practice area for chipping and putting.

Wedge game 20-100yds. No guesswork. Just execute.
120-160 dispersion is so much tighter. Now I need to work on putting. The skytrak has helped give me more of those putts you need to make. Now I just need to make them!

What are you using to work on putting with the SkyTrak? A sim? Or are you just talking generally when you are on the golf course?
