I'm not here to feud. I've given possible solutions to people that are having issues with their ST and coincidently their FMJ. The middle bars is what was causing issues with my case. Could there be more issues with the FMJ? Of course, I have no way to know though. Don't have one. My next suggestion has been to dremel out the lower section of the window in the camera area.
It's important to understand in this thread that it is random +3 AND -3 direction on putting. If it's a one way miss +3 OR -3, that could be a number things not related to the FMJ. Similar to what allen2be is experiencing. He and I and others had a similar convo about this last week. A 6 degree variance is just unmanageable and you simply can't make a putt. I've been there and it is very frustrating. You can't putt around a two way miss. I ask Thinman to clarify. You are experiencing a random 6 degree variance in putting without a case? If so, that's simply terrible and would then fall on SkyTrak. I have not seen or heard of this before.
As far as proving something, I don't know what I'm expected to prove. I've called out 2 specific TGC tournaments in my thread Skytrak Armour for people to compare shot recordings. One when I had material in the flash area causing the +3 AND -3 putting woes. One where I changed the window and solved the issue. It's night and day. I play the tournament every week, plenty of data to support my claims. I finished my second round of last weeks tournament yesterday. Check my shot recordings, I had a +2 blocked putt and a +3 blocked putt (my stroke tendency) and all the rest of my putts were zeroed out. You will also see that I had a bit of a Tincup moment on #15 when I rinsed two on the par 5. I can still make that shot! Ha!!!
You guys can say I have sour grapes, but it's not true. This has been my concern and what I've been trying to fight against. Jwheels, "I'm annoyed with the skytrak in general, if I can't trust a 7 foot putt can I trust anything else to read correctly even 90% of the time? Getting my pennies saved for a GC2 at this point..."

Hey DirtyGarry24, have you gotten any user reviews of your case yet? Is this a case issue or a SkyTrak issue...

If you have an FMJ, please do not cut out the bars in the center of the window. As I have seen, and others have now confirmed, you will see no difference in performance, and you will have less protection for the sensitive portion of the SkyTrak.
If someone suggests this, or any other modification of the FMJ because of some experience they have had with their own DIY case, you should ask them:
1. Do you have an FMJ?
2. When you "changed the window and solved the issue" - didn't you also open up the area around the cameras - couldn't that have been the real issue? Wouldn't it stand to reason that material directly below the camera lens could very easily interfere with the view of putts and low-launching shots?
3. Why do you keep talking about the FMJ when those guys haven't mentioned you or your case in close to two months?

I mentioned the FMJ because the "FMJ Guys" (you) keep quoting me in all these threads that question the FMJ's ability to cause improper ball flight. Stop quoting me and I'll not post. This isn't about us buddy, let it play out.

I said on other threads...the SkyTrak has to be centered in the FMJ front to back...with the FMJ beta version, offset screw holes, I just set my SkyTrak unattached against the face of the FMJ and then insert tees on each side, front and back, to make sure it is centered. I got very erratic results, especially evident in putting, until I centered the Trak in the FMJ...the evidence was for straight putts going right into my putting mat hole...but missing both right and left erratically.

i dont hit irons off my CCE any longer (fiberbuilt) and it has been turned since i did, but it is still very squishy and prone to imperfections though of course.
i put down a nice flat paver last night and also strung a clawtee line down and am getting much better results this morning, but did not come across a 8-10' downhill putt on my round this morning to test what has been the real sore spot for me.
I have also added an additional light to the area.
will test further, but warming up to it being environment related (mat, lighting, imperfect strike) over device related.
I'm not sure what I am being asked to clarify. My testing is without a case
to clarify, "without a case" means....with no case. Bare unit. Commando. En Natural

Lol! You crack me up thinman. My question was are you getting a 6 degree variance with your flat bat?
Bare back of course...Last edited by DirtyGarry24; 02-07-2017, 04:28 AM.

Yes, centered in the case is important. Both left/right and up/down (level with the hitting surface) The Skytrak needs to "see" the ball, and it is looking with its cameras through holes in the FMJ - if the alignment is off, the case can impact the view and ultimate result.Originally posted by Dan McWhirter View PostI said on other threads...the SkyTrak has to be centered in the FMJ front to back...with the FMJ beta version, offset screw holes, I just set my SkyTrak unattached against the face of the FMJ and then insert tees on each side, front and back, to make sure it is centered. So I played the practice round (pebble beach) this evening and watched my shot records closely on putting. I had a lot of putts, first off. I had one +2 right miss and one -1 left miss. All the rest were zeroed out. Shot +4 from 7000+ yards, pretty average to decent for my ability.
Check the "non tour shot records", it's all there folks. Pebble Beach. Love the Skytrak when it's performing properly.
Did this with my production run of Skytrak Armour for testing purposes. I'll update my thread tomorrow.
OP, don't give up on the Skytrak, it's a good piece of equipment. I don't have the issues that you are experiencing.

I'll try to make a little video tonight on this...I use the skytrak case and putt on a putting mat... if I make it in the hole in my mat it pushes around 2* pretty consistently... if I put to the left of the hole I get a straight putt pretty consistently
I use a laser to line everything up... it's very frustrating...I have to hit chips and everything a little left in order to get it to read straight...
like I said I'll make a video and try a bunch of different settings to see if it's just my setup or maybe you guys can point out that I'm pushing my putts...
it's frustrating beyond explanation cause I really do like the unit... but when I got out and putt on greens at my course when it's in the high 30s and the greens haven't been cut in months and it's easier to putt on those than it is the ST it's hard not to scratch your head

sorry i guess I never mentioned I aligned it to the middle of my cup...in tgc it is a pretty consistent data read and I know these things aren't meant to be super precise for putting cause that's not what they were made for but it's still a bit annoying
here was a quick test I did this morning on JNPG since it was easier to turn on the alignment mode etc for a quick video...
now this is my normal setup when I putt I'm tgc...I'll pull the putting mat up consistently I'm the same spot and always putt to the left of the hole in order to get a straight reading...now for this I moved my skytrak so it was center on my ruler which is why it's pointed to the left side of the hole if you can see that in the video...I have marks on the floor to make it the placement consistent
I'll make a more elaborate video when I get some time testing another mat that I have and hopefully I can prove its another variable in my setup
now you'll see this putt stays on the ruler and may be just a hair right... JNPG reads it a 5* push which would be likely a 3-4 degree push in TGC...like I said I'll try to make one of just TGC but I used JNPG quickly for a quick demo since they show near the same results

is it just me or are you putting from way behind the skytrak laser?Originally posted by Brettskermetzger View Postsorry i guess I never mentioned I aligned it to the middle of my cup...in tgc it is a pretty consistent data read and I know these things aren't meant to be super precise for putting cause that's not what they were made for but it's still a bit annoying

Just wondering....in another thread, someone posted about how they use a laser level to ensure their alignment. Would it be possible to do that with putting? Turn the laser level on and ensure it is aligned with the SkyTrak's lasers, then try putting down the laser level's laser line? That should definitely prove if there is an issue, shouldn't it?

Your SkyTrak seems way too high..I've always wondered if that puts the ball at the very lower edge of the field of lens view. Have you tried it with skytrak lower?

I wonder if it's because the ball is ramping down from your mat to the carpet still within the capture window? Dunno.

The laser dot looks very close to the edge of your mat. Maybe you could try to pull the ST out of the case, set it on the carpet and then just putt on your ruler which should also be sitting on the carpet and with the ball sitting on the laser dot to start. Then see how it reads.

Alright after literally putting for hours last night I tried everything. I have a big moss putting mat from eyeline golf that I used flat on the ground to make sure it wasn't my setup. I laser aligned with the dots on the mat and tried each setup with and without the ruler.
First I tried it with the skytrak in the same position as you see in the movie (way above the level of the ball) with my putting mat flat on the ground and not on top of my actual hitting mat. This definitely creates a right biased. Everything was 2*+ to the right even when I was hitting to the left of my hole by 3 inches or more.
Second I lowered the legs so the skytrak sat on the ground level with the mat. This was the first time I saw straight putts when my ball would actually fall into the hole. But it wasn't consistent. It still liked to have a pushed bias to it anywhere up to 3*. But if I hit the putt firm enough (over 10ft) I could get it to read straight quite often.
Third I took the skytrak out of the case and set it directly on the mat. This gave me pretty much the same results as above. It still has a little right bias more often than straight when the ball was going into the hole.
I performed all the same stuff with JNPG and that was far more inconsistent but it still liked a right biased more than anything. I tried different putters as well and got nearly the same results but it did seem to want to read straight a little more often so maybe something in my putter throws it off?
Anyway one very consistent result I found out of all of the setups were the slow putts...anything under 10ft. EVERY PUTT WAS 3* RIGHT!!! Other skytrak users I play with live say the same thing. Rolling a 5 footer down that ruler is not the easiest task but every single time I rolled a putt online that was under 10ft it was read as a right push...this is definitely a problem for us skytrak users. Now when I pretend the hole is a cup left on my mat those putts read straight but the overall tendency of the skytrak is to read putts pushed...even when i know i have pulled putts left and lip out on the left side of the hole I get putts that read right.
Overall I think the setup I use is probably not the best but I am able to get it to read straight more often than not by pretending the hole is a cup left. It definitely did seem to read a little better if the skytrak was on the ground next to my big moss mat...but i'm not going to move my skytrak every time I need to putt.
If anyone really wants to see these tests I can create a video of the different heights of the skytrak and the skytrak sitting level and out of the case on my mat. It will be long and boring as I need to close TGC and open up the skytrak app every time to check the alignment. But if you need more proof outside of the little video above I can and will do that.
Hope this helps any of the other skytrak users.
