  • "TGC Basic" question

I've been using my Skytrak only for practice. I have the extra $99 package. I'm considering getting TGC. Some people have mentioned "TGC basic" which costs way less, but doesn't include online play and is limited to 10 courses or something. If it's a one-time purchase price of $250 or $300, that might be a nice way to get some functionality for local multiplayer.

Does this exist for Skytrak? If so, how are the courses? And where would I buy it? I get confused by the TGC/Protee overlap, and I'm not using Protee to my knowledge. Thanks for any ideas.

The best long term value is to pony up the $995 and buy the lifetime TGC license through SkyTrak. Skytrak does offer a yearly subscription as well but at $479 a year the numbers clearly favor the lifetime license. You still need to keep the $99 /yearly Game Improvement Package subscription from Skytrak regardless if you go with the yearly or lifetime TGC.

I would second Sledge's advice. Drop the cash for the full thing and you will not be sorry. I tried to save a few bucks and started with E6 for my Skytrak...I later bought TGC and have not even used my E6 since.

The TGC basic is not available for SkyTrak. Its also very limited. No online play, no stats, no course editor and ships with 15 courses + 1 range.

Monovision, if you can afford it, spend the money and get the full version and buy it outright. I waffled over renting or purchasing, and if you plan to play for a couple years, (in my opinion) it will pay for itself. I live in Florida and can golf year round, but I can only play real golf on the weekends. I am amazed at how much time I have been spending on my SkyTrak app or TGC. I have found myself playing more TGC than anything as there are way more courses than other sims, and frankly, its a TON of fun, especially if you play the tour!! I have seen great improvements in my real life game from playing rounds on TGC.

Thanks guys, and especially from the ProTee response. My internet is slow, unfortunately. Will that be an issue for local multiplayer play? Are courses downloaded ahead of time or as a round is played?

TGC doesn't allow multiple local players. You can play others online, but can't live.

TGC2 is in beta testing right now and should eventually make its way to protee. You may want to confirm with them that by spending the money now, you'll get that later.

TGC for sim is truly great though... Other than the multi player flaw.

I don't know how a slow connection would hamper your ability to play. You don't save the courses locally and for me, a new course loads in about 3 seconds. However, you can save one locally if the designer sends you the source file.

TGC does do multiple local players, and can play others live while playing with multiple local players. I have no idea what you're talking about.

If you're talking about PROFILES for multiple local players, then yes, TGC only allows 1 profile per installation, meaning your main player will have a profile in the game that keeps stats...etc. If you wanted multiple profiles for stat keeping, then JNPG has that option.

But you can absolutely play with multiple players locally in TGC offline or online, and against other players live or ghost ball.

That's not quiet right I believe. TGC allows local multiplayer as well as online play. There is not many formats for the online play but it is available. Lokal multiplayer you can play with the offline courses too. So if you don't have internet or it is too slow you have some offline courses available. Not sure how many but I think it was around 100 . What is not available is multiple tees ! I sometimes have internet speed issues and it makes it a pain in the a.. to play the tournaments. In this case I usually switch over and just play a offline course for practice.
