  • Request - Apple TV App

I have a Skytrak on order, plan to use it with my iphone and aiplay to my apple tv and projector until the funds are available for TGC.

Feature request for Skytrak - could we get a dedicated Apple TV app to avoid the extra step of airplay? The current Apple TV runs on the A8 processor, same as the iPad air, iphone 6, and mini 4. Technically it should meet system requirements. Has Skytrak investigated?

That would be a GREAT feature!

Sounds like a no-brainer to me.

Adding a fourth platform to their product is far from trivial – it would add approximately 33% to their software development, release cycles, and support costs. This for a dev team that seems stretched to the max already.

Personally I'd rather see all effort go towards fixing bugs and adding features for the current three platforms, but in the end it depends on how much demand there is for the AppleTV platform. My guess is the demand is relatively low.

            4 platforms?

            PC
            iOS - iphone and ipad
tvOS - Apple TV, based on iOS
            4th???

it would be more work but definitely not 33% more resources for software development and support costs.

it would give the consumer more options and likely save them money if they could buy a 150 dollar apple tv vs a 329 dollar ipad, plus another 150 on an apple tv anyway if they want to project to a screen or watch airplay to a TV

Yeah, fortunately for Apple developers if they code it for one iOS platform (iPhone, iPad, etc.) then its not much more than a compiler switch to generate code for another iOS device (Apple TV) as long as no device specific hardware is used (camera, acceleromter, etc..). So I could see them making an Apple TV offering fairly easily. I would use it as I'd rather not AirPlay and I can't stand using the Windoze PC anyway.

            forgot people still used android.

android users could benefit from this as well. porting the standard android app to an android TV app would also make life easier when connecting to projector's or tv's.

More people use Android than iOS (because there are more handsets), I dare say Skytrak would have sold a lot more units had it supported Android from the off.
