New to TGC and Skytrak. Need advice on putting and general questions

    Hi all,

Got the Skytrak in December and finally got the TGC 2 days ago along with it thanks to the recent father's day sale. I was so excited to see something new from the general Skytrak range that I rushed the TGC install and played a round as quickly as I could. I ended up playing the TPC at Sawgrass which at first was fun until I got to some holes that had 200 yards of water between my shot and the green LOL. Took me awhile to figure out how to look for other courses online (maybe a menu design thing) but again I was rushing everything because I was excited.

    Putting
I found that you have to really putt the ball hard to get it moving, especially from the fringe. I tried to look in the search functions of this forum and youtube videos on how others are doing but nothing really stands out to help me. I sadly found out there is no practice mode or range in TGC so its as I have to learn how to putt on the game while playing a round but I think I read TGC 2 will have a range sandbox mode so I can't wait for that update.

Can you all share how you guys putt on using the Skytrak? I found the Gimme option to give me 2 strokes as long as I land on the green and have been using that for now. I really like this game so far but would love to get away from the gimme option in the near future. Does the gimme option even play in the online tournaments? I would think not.

Also, is there a user guide or beginners forum for TGC on skytrak so I can find answers to questions and have something to read to kill time at work =).

In case it matters, I was putting off the driving mat, same location where I would hit the ball with an iron.

Set your gimmies at 2 yards or 6 feet, whichever it says there in the options. That's what they use in the tournaments. When you search for courses use the search button and type in Protee and courses that are actually playable distance for mortals will pop up. A lot of the courses are built for the video gamers and are like 7200 yards or even longer.

putting on skytrak is good IMO until you try to putt less than 5 feet then it just doesn't read half of them until you hit it harder then you blow past the hole.

you for sure jumped in on the wrong course, sawgrass last week was absolutely a brutal length course unless you're a really great golfer.

And also, if you're putting from the exact spot on your mat, you may want to move the ball slightly away from that spot in case it's worn down and the ball rolls through a worn part and messes with your direction on the putt

and get the patch for straight putting . For some reason the skytrak will give you random 3 degree reads on putts even when you hit them perfectly straight down your mat. That will drive you crazy after a while trust me lol

There are a few driving ranges built in TGC. You could also start a round and play the hole until you get to the green to putt. Turn on auto rewind and you should be able to putt from the same location over and over. I have not tried this from the green, but I assume auto rewind will work for putting as well as other shots.

I never putt from the fringe in TGC - however, the other putting seems fairly real. I have a 20 foot putting area and 10 feet is about 10 feet. you can find many good courses to play via the tournament page
        http://golfsimulatortours.com/schedu...?tour-name=TGC 2017 SPRING TOUR

        and from here
Here is a list of Real Course Recreations in TGC. All the names are as they appear in the game so you should be able to use this as a search guide. I tried to list

Welcome Ryan! When putting from the fringe u have to make sure u switch it to the putter. TGC by default will leave u in chipping mode when on the fringe, resulting in having to hit it unrealisticly hard. Changing to the putter fixes this.
