I am having router problems and when I had last used my ST it was in network mode. My ST is stuck in Network mode but will not connect via a wireless connection. I have attempted to do a hard reset to get into direct mode by using a paper clip to push the little button inside the large hole on the bottom of the ST--this has always worked in the past. I have tried 20 plus times varying the amount of time depressing the button (from 10 seconds up to a minute.) The middle light on the ST starts out flashing red then turns yellow but never stops flashing. I have also tried connecting via USB to my computer (actually tried connecting on 2 separate computers both with the ST 2.6.2 software which I believe is the latest version) When connected via USB about every minute or so my computer keeps making the sound that it makes when you connect a USB device that alerts you that a new device has been connected. I sent Seth a message but have not yet heard back. Any help at all would be much appreciated

Hey, sorry I wasn't online yesterday, been completely swamped trying to get this new version out to resolve the crash some users are having. Now that is out of the way...I've never heard of that scenario. Either the middle light should go solid yellow or back to solid red. One way to force it back to direct mode is to go outside of your network range. If it is programmed with network credentials then it will try to connect to that network, but if it can't see it, it will revert to direct mode. But as far as not being able to hard-reset, are you doing it with the unit turned on? (should be). It sounds like you've done it in the past without issue, so part of me wonders if there is a hardware issue somewhere. Did the unit happen to take a hit or a drop?

I had an issue where my ST would not do a hard reset. It would not connect either like Liturbo's ST. In my case, my router was the issue. It is a dual band where we mostly use the 5ghz and only the ST uses the 2.4 ghz freq. Didn't know that the 2.4 was stuck. Unplugged and plugged it back in and voila! The ST connected right away.
Give it a shot. May save you lost time sending your unit in for service when it doesn't need it.

No worries--Thanks for getting back to me. The unit is in an Armour case, has not been hit and has not been dropped. It has been working flawlessly. As far as taking the unit out of wifi range range I do not currently have my router turned on since it isn't working--(had to order a new router today-my router bricked out with a firmware flash and the recovery utility isn't working either.) I am doing the hard reset with the unit turned on-- I have done a hard reset quite a number of times in the past most recently with the firmware update crashing I experienced and it has always reverted to direct modes. Any other tricks I can try? Is there someone I can talk to that is good with hardware issues? As always thanks.

Yeah, the 2.4 + 5Ghz network can always cause confusion when the unit connects to the 2.4 and the device (iPad/PC) connects to the 5, often by the same name. That would prevent the unit from connecting in the software, but shouldn't affect its ability to do a hard reset. Have you tried walking your unit down the block away from your network range? I mean, if your router is off, you shouldn't have any network signal...but if that was the case, the SkyTrak unit should never go to flashing yellow, as that indicates that it has found the network you programmed to it.

Thanks for the reply Genghis--your issue/problem is very interesting. The fact that you could not do a hard reset as a result of your routers dual band issue leads me to believe that my ST issue is resulting from my router issues as well--my router is a dual band router also. Yesterday I had a router firmware update crash that resulted in every wifi device that I have indicating that the wifi IP configuration was incorrect. After 3 hours of trying to reflash the router software I gave up and decided to hit some golf balls. The coincidence is too odd. I usually use direct mode but the night before I connected to wifi so I could sync to Skygolf360 and when I finished I left it in network mode. When I turned the Skytrak on yesterday the middle light just kept flashing red/yellow and wouldn't stop--I figured it was because my router was not working so I tried a hard reset multiple times and nothing happened--I then tried a USB connection and still nothing changed (red/yellow light flashing) except that I can tell that my computer is trying to connect to my ST as it recognizes that a usb device has been plugged in --unfortunately it doesn't seem to work and is in a loop where it just keeps trying to connect. I am hoping someone at Skygolf/Skytrak can offer a solution without my having to send it to them for repair. I use the ST almost daily.

Sooo!! based on Genghis experience and your help Seth I disconnected all my repeaters and turned wifi off and the middle light went solid red and connected immediately to my iPad. No wifi so it defaulted to the ST wifi without even having to do it manually. All is now well. But interesting that a wifi loop cant be overridden by the hard reset.
Thanks to both of you.

Cool, but still a few things to figure out. Does it hard reset now? Can you connect back to your network if you turn off the repeaters?
FYI, the middle light alternating "yellow-red-yellow-red-yellow-red" means that it sees the network that is programmed to it but the signal is too weak to connect to.

I've had no problem connecting after I reset my router and "unstuck" my 2.4 ghz band. I did not try to do a hard reset since everything was working fine and I didn't want to jinx it. While in that "loop" trying to connect to my bad router, it would not do a hard reset.
Nice that we have this forum to share experiences...

I know it's been some time since this post but I wanted to add my experience that may help others. I was messing around with the network connect mode and choose the incorrect security for my wifi network. This got me stuck trying to connect to the network. I tried to do a usb connect but as long as it was stuck trying to connect to my network incorrectly it would not do the usb connection. I tried the unit reset with it on and found that it would not reset. I unplugged my wifi AP to kill the ssid broadcast and I was able to connect via usb. At this point, I attempted to do a reset, but the unit would not reset while connected via usb either. When I unplugged the usb cable it once again tried to connect via network connection. By process of elimination, I then turned off my AP, unplugged the usb connection and turned the unit on. I did get the top two red lights. I was able to reset the unit at this point. My conclusion for my issue was to make sure the unit did not have a valid connection or have stored settings on the unit trying to make a valid connection by taking away all options and forcing it to attempt direct mode. In the end I was able to reset the device, re-enter my wifi setting with the correct security options and connect via Network Mode. Just took about an hour and reading this post to make it work.

FIXED. I also had a issue with the unit being stuck in network mode and not able to to return to direct mode. The middle light flashed yellow indicating looking for a previously connected network. The reset button on the base of the unit did not fix this issue. However the idea of going outside the range of the network (thanks Seth) did. I needed to go quite a long way. Initially I went about 80 yards/70metres but this just indicated a weak signal. Going a further 30yards/20metres was enough for the unit to lose the signal and reset. The middle light reset from flashing yellow to solid red. I then walked the unit back(still turned on) it stayed that way and I then I was able to reconnected in direct mode. Problem fixed! Thanks to those that have posted here.

Update - when turned off problem returned. I fix this, need to repeat the out of range reset then I did the hard reset - paperclip in the small hole below the unit (rubber plug removed). Press and hold paperclip about 10 sec while still out of range. All the lights turn solid yellow. Remove paperclip. Then connect to network in network mode as per manual. Problem solved.
