  • SkyTrak unit not reading any shot

    Dear,
I took my unit few days ago to driving range and got it connected with Android app. It was working fine, however after some time it stopped reading the shots.
I did not try anything after that until today when I connected the unit to PC and the unit is not reading ANY shot.
    I tried the next:
    Reset unit
    Uninstall the software
Delete all SkyTrak data from the PC
    Install new software
    Reset device once again
Membership confirmed active by SkyTrak support (online chat)

I tried direct connection and USB as well. Both connections were successful, but not reading any shot.

Your support and help is appreciated.

You just need to look at the Skytrak through your camera.

Here is the right hand "curtain". It looks like purple light.

Here is a chip and you can see the flash go off.

Remember an iPhone won't work for this. iPhones have an IR filter built into the camera.

      - Make sure the lighting isnt directly pointing at the lens
      - use a white ball with a black line
      - make sure to avoid white rubber tees
      - make sure you have a reliable network connection

SkyTrak_Seth I hit about 30 shots on my skytrak this morning and everything is working fine and then it stopped reading right-handed. It will read left-handed. Tried different connection modes and still having an issue right-handed, but it is reading left-handed. Please help!

my SkyTrak is about three weeks old.

I think they said in the past it might be the laser curtain or something along those lines. They had to be sent back to fix. Bummer.

Sorry guys, just got back from vacation.

johan14 , to me it sounds like the unit will need to go back, unfortunately. If you can't get it to trigger at all in right handed, then my best guess is the light curtain.

Todd22 , Can you get it to trigger (top light go out) if you just waggle a club in front? 3 weeks old is definitely not in the light-curtain-out camp.

I cannot get it to trigger at all. I have tried everything I can think of. Changing height, changing background, changing direction, nothing happens when I waggle club or hit shot.

SkyTrak_Seth So skytrak has had my device for two weeks now and I receive little communication. I received one email when I inquired about the progress and I was told I would hear by the end of last week. Still no update at the end of last week or this week. The customer service has been horrible. I have a three week old product that has now spent more time at skytrak then I have had it. Hopefully Seth can help out? if they can't figure out the product at this point skytrak should provide a new device.

It took 3 weeks to get mine back after a laser trigger replacement. When I called for updates it sounded like the unit is repaired at one location and then sent to another location for testing.

Today mine was ok to begin my session and then got worse and worse on misreads until I had to stop out of frustration... I am hoping it is a one-off or something to do with a recent update to the unit. I am using the same setup as always.

Shouldn't have any relation to unit or software update. Is this still a problem?

I thought you may be interested to hear my story. I've had my Skytrak for just under two years, and since new it has missed shots. Some days it will work flawlessly and others it will send a wedge 300 yards to the right or left. I have had numerous calls with Skytrak none of which really resolved the issue but I soldiered on.
I tried left hand , right hand, move the ball, check the height, sent photos of my hitting area to Skytrak etc etc.
The machine finally gave up the ghost 4 weeks ago and it was sent back to Skytrak in the UK. I had to chase them to find out what was going on and was told the machine had been sent to the US as the people in UK could not get it to work either and that the cost of repair is going to be between $100 and $1000 - phew, a possible $1000 bill for something that should not be happening, kind of calls into question long term reliability of the unit going forward. I'll let you know the outcome.
Interestingly the major problem only happened after I bought the new steel protective case ( just to say though that the machine has never been struck).

I'm sorry to hear about this problem. Did you buy the SkyTrak metal case? Is it sitting flush with the surface of the mat?

Man, I'm sorry to hear and sorry again for the delay. Do you have your unit back? I certainly hope so! (and pray that it's working). For a unit that new, there should not be that kind of delay on repair. It should have been swapped.

I got it back about two weeks ago. It was with skytrak for about 3-4 weeks and the laser curtain had to be replaced on the right handed side. Overall very frustrating, but never felt like you could talk to someone who had any decision making power.

Seth, in answer to your question, yes the metal case is the Skyrak case and yes it was sitting flush on the mat. The Skytrak was tested in the UK, they could not get it to work and it is now in the US. I have heard nothing for weeks so have today sent a chasing email asking for an update.

                      HI,

I got a brand new ST today. The tried it in direct mode a couple of times in the living room in direct mode, everything seemed fine so i wanted to test the unit on the driving range to compare real shots to the data. Could not get it to work. Direct mode dropped out all the time. I got the laser dot, took a shot and the red dot disappeared. Later on i got a couple of readings, but very unstable. I gave up, went home and tried to connect via the network setting (using an iPhone 8). First, it was almost impossible to read the text in the app and even harder to connect to my home network. After a couple of tries i moved the unit very close to the router and finally got set up to the network.

The thing is, i get no readings at all, tried direct mode as well, same thing. 1/10 i could get one of the lamps to blink dragging the club blade in front of it. Tried different levels, different ball positions..

Everything feels very unstable and i can already see me putting way too much time into this thing to actually get it to work.

Was the unit in direct sunlight at the range?

Hi, No it was not, it was at night time. Today i went back to the same spot at the range to have another try. The iphone hade serious issues with connecting to skytrak, it was dropping out all the time. Then i moved to another place at the driving range where there wasn't any other wifi networks sending and the iphone connected to ST right away and started reading shots as well. This was in almost direct sunlight. Later at the same session the sun went more to a direct position against the camera lens, which might explain that 160 yard shots read asa 140 yards. Earlier the distance readings seemed dead on. Could that be the case?

My conclusion is that some networks interfere with Direct Mode, but just some, since i believe Direct Mode was more stable at home despite there is a lot of networks beaming. i don't know.

At home i also noted that if i placed the ball one, and sometimes two balls, behind the red dot i got readings almost every time. I also had the ST slightly elevated. I don't have proper mat to hit from yet.

Yesterday i felt that would send it back. Today i feel much more hopeful and maybe this unit could help me survive the nasty winter that is coming soon here in Sweden.

I also got the unit working in Network Mode and could watch the ball flight on my TV. Very nice!
