  • Skytrak and Tomahawk tees

Just finishing my garage rebuild for my Skytrak, and have recently purchased some Tomahawk tees. They seem like the perfect solution to not wanting a hole in the mat for the tee holder. I had previously been changing out the hitting section on the mat to one with a tee holder when driving, which was a total PIA.

My question for those that use Tomahawks: do you ever see a problem with the tee flying forward and interfering with the Skytrak reading the ball? I know Skytrak's documentation suggests not hitting off grass if you're outdoors because flying dirt can cause misreads, and I've also read that mat movement can interfere, so I'm not sure how the Tomahawks are with them. I can't ever recall having a problem when a regular tee would fly forward out of the holder, but figured I'd ask here before investing in a bunch of Tomahawks.

I use Tomahawk tees with my Skytrak with no issues whatsoever... except shagging the tees :-)

Sometimes I will see drives that have 5k-10k spin. I suspect its due to the tomahawk tee. Does not happen that often, maybe 1 out of 100 drives.

I have used Tomahawk tees since I purchased my skytrak and have had no issues. I have contemplated trying to attach a string to them, because like bknoxville said, you do have to go gather them up after you hit.

Guys, buy the teeclaw when you get the tomahawk tees. I've been using these for a very long time now, you never chase a tee again, or at least until the tether breaks, but you get a lot of cords and can either replace or re-tie it.

I tried the tee claw awhile back. Thing mashed into unusability after two hits with the driver. Returned it for a refund. Should be easy enough to replicate the cords for less than the kit goes for, though.

Same as the other's stated. Haven't noticed any impact to ST readings but it can be a PIA to hunt for the tee. Think I'll try the tee claw as wbond suggested.

Thanks for the feedback... will be expanding my collection of Tomahawks, and going to look into some lightweight paracord to keep them from flying everywhere.

Teeclaws worked for me. I bought a package of 4 almost a year ago. 2 of the lines have broke, I just tied them on a little shorter. Never had any problems. Still have one new one.

+1 for the tee claws attached to the tomahawk.

Does anyone have experience with these tees?

I myself have no problem with them, had a friend over last night, he had a real problem getting his drives to register (SkyTrak) - the white Birtee tumbling into the camera shot I'm assuming. He had 4 unregistered shots in a row, I stepped up and hit the same ball and the same tee, no problem...

I use the birtee and love them. They come in 8 sizes so you can tee it low to high. Plus they don’t fall over like the tomahawk tees as they have a wider base. Well worth a try.

SecondandGoal how did you mash the teeclaw into unusability after two hits? I'm not talking about using teeclaw to hit from, just to hold the tether that would be attached to the tomahawk tee. The teeclaw never gets hit.

Sorry... Wasn't saying it wouldn't work the way you were using it. Was just commenting that I had some at one point, and mashed it while using it to tee up from, so I returned them. If I still had them, I'd use them the way you suggested. As it is, I'm not going to spend the $$ on them just for this purpose. I'll just grab some lightweight paracord to attach to them, and attach the other end to the frame of my hitting area.

I use these and I get a few no reads but overall they are good. I would avoid the white tees and stick with the darker colours

My suggestion for tees that are cheap and work well for par 3 holes are water bottle caps like these

I've used both the Tomahawk tees and Birtee tees, here are my thoughts.

The Tomahawks are great, nice and light and aren't felt during the swing. They are a bit tough because they only come in 1 height for the driver and they can get a little beat up. That said, I prefer them at the moment.

The Birtees are very good, much more solid and stable than the Tomahawk. I got the 8 pack with 8 different heights which is great for trying different ball heights or for when other players come over and prefer the ball higher/lower for their driver. The problem I have with them, and maybe it's just my swing, is that I tend to feel the tee as I hit the driver. The wider base, weight and stability seem to keep it in place. This could just be for my swing and I probably should be bottoming out at the ball and not the tee...but my swing is not that consistent. I haven't done any research to see if this impacts my ball speed or is just a feel thing. Just my .02, YMMV.

Either way, I do use the teeclaw lanyards attached to a spare tee that I stuck under my hitting mat and it saves me from searching the room for either of the options after every shot. Highly recommended!

I attached a small eye screw to my platform and used fly fishing line tied to the bolt and Tomahawk tee. Cheap solution. One thing I noticed is when the line was long and the tee would fly forward, I would get some strange readings. When I shortened the line to keep it from going forward, I had better driver readings.
