  • Moving aim?

Been searching, but I can't locate any mention of my question. Using the Skytrak app, can the target or aim be moved left or right? I swear I found it once somewhere, but I'll be darned if I can find it again. Thanks.

When you are in a session go to settings and it can be found in the view dropbox. It took me a while to find it again too after I moved the Skytrak and had to readjust the alignment.

Thank you grant2145. Unfortunately that's not that I was looking for. I find it hard to "aim" on an indoor mat, due to size, general space etc. The app at PGA superstore lets you virtually move your aim by using the arrow keys. Thus a shot struck dead straight will intentionally start right or left straight down the line, based on the software aim. I'm sure I saw it in Skytrak somewhere, but I can't locate it now.

Don't think Skytrak has such a thing like the GC2 arrow thing.

chengka Did you figure this out?

I play about a 10 yard draw with most of my irons (not enough room to really swing woods freely) and I am close to pulling the trigger on a Skytrak (with plans to wait on sim software for the foreseeable future so I'm focused on the Skytrak app right now). I will be hitting in to a net with a screen off to the side so my preference is to always aim at the middle of the net and be square to the stance mat because I feel like "aiming right" will be tough without looking at my target (on the course I have no issues with where my ball starts but I can feel where the target is better than staring at a net).

For just hitting balls in the range it isn't a huge deal as I can watch if my ball starts down the center and ends ~10 yards left of center but if I do the target practice (which I think is what will actually encourage me to improve) I will need the ball to start out 10 yards left.

Yea, you can't do this in the Skytrak range app. I wish they would make a targeting system, as it would make the Challenges(closes to the pin, longdrive) a lot more fun if you have a natural curve to your shot. SkyTrak_Seth I am sure this feature has been discussed, but are their any plans in the works to implement it?

I guess I'm confused (which isn't hard)...why don't you just do as you do on the course and adjust your body position/aim to account for your shot shape? (ie, if you know you draw the ball, aim a bit right and "push" the ball, just like IRL)

Thanks for responding. The challenge I find is that I am staring at a wall (not at a green IRL or even a screen with a visual of a green) so because my mat is square to the wall and aimed at the centre of my net visually everything sets up to start it straight not right. If I align right I end up pulling it back to centre way more in to a net than I do IRL to a green.

I was at a simulator last week (I think it was HD golf they used) and I was simply able to aim the screen to the right side of the green, line up square to the mat and hit away at the centre of the screen. To me this is much better for practice because I know my alignment is correct with my equipment square so as long as I line up square and hit the middle of the net then the ball will start where I think it should. I may get used to "aiming further right at my wall" over time but it still seems like from a practice perspective keeping everything square and adjusting the target on the screen that's off to the side makes more sense when I can't visually align myself like I would on the golf course.

Appreciate I may be in the minority here but given I found this thread and someone else above expressed interest I suspect I am not the only one that would see some value (admittedly I realize 3 people isn't your broad audience). Not obvious to me how hard it would be to add the feature.

As an aside, I would also think having people "aim down the line" would make predicting club data easier from ball data if you get back to implementing that feature. If I'm aimed right and someone else is aimed left but we put the exact same swing on the ball I would guess your algorithms would give different club data instead of predicting it's an alignment issue. I had a Swingbyte and it took me awhile to figure out why I was getting insane in/out path numbers but it was because I initially aimed the camera at my target (i.e., the pin) as opposed to where I was starting the ball. Relative to swinging at the pin I had huge in/out numbers but relative to where I was trying to align I had modest in/out.

Anyway, I appreciate the insight as I am a data guy in general but never had great access to golf data so excited about the prospect of picking up a Skytrak soon. Just trying to be sure it's the best fit for my needs as I have limited flexibility to get a screen setup permanently to hit at.

Some people have a limited hitting area as well, so whether is the net/screen area isn't big enough to handle a wide angle of shots, or its possible that the area behind the golfer may marginal and if you want to aim right, you hit the wall behind you. Just a few reasons I thought of off the top of my head. I'm surprised this never occurred to anyone @ skytrak tbh.
