    CCE elbows

I was diagnosed with bilateral tendonitis due to hitting too many balls. I got my ST for Christmas and hit 150-400 balls daily for three weeks straight. I finally forced myself to take 11 days off without any practice other than putting in the house. I hit about 100 balls last night and feel fine today. I have a few questions about hitting surfaces. Does anyone know if the ST will read off of the Fiberbuilt flight deck? I currently have the Rukket mat seen below and I was hitting off of the thicker section on the left. I assume that is similar to the CCE since I can put a tee in it. When I use the middle section that represents rough/grass I get several 'no-reads'.

dmoore9003 or doublebogey Any chance you can share photos of your set-up when you hit off of grass, please? I am curious to the height needed for the ST to sit and the length of the grass. I want to take my ST to the range when the weather permits to compare my indoor data. I appreciate the insight!

I think the flight deck has the same design as their 1x1 panels and that is what I use. The ST reads fine for all shot off of the FB panels.

I use the Fiberbuilt flight deck as well and absolutely love it. I made a stance mat using two 5/8 OSB sheets on top of eachother with some putting turf. I cut a hole in the OSB sheets the size of the flight deck and it doesn't go anywhere, didn't even need to use screws to hold it down. I putt from my putting turf and hit all other shots from the Fiberbuilt flight deck (I doesn't work well for putting). Not sure how it would for Skytrack since I use a GC2.

There are some other threads on the forum about mats. Here are the ones I am aware of:

        CCE: Fiber system
Fairway pro:Sliding turf (does it interfere with Skytrak reads?)
        Divot action: Flexible lexan underlay
        Mag strike: Magnetic cushion
        True strike: Gel pad underlay
        Strike absorber: Air filled diaphragm

The choices are bewildering. Which can works best in preventing tendonitis? Which one minimizes the chance of developing bad habits? Which one has the most realistic launch parameters compared to real grass? What about durability?

Leaning towards divot action at this point.

Just my $0.02 here.... I've used both the CCE (20" x 10" insert) and a home built "Divot action".

I have found the Divot action (flexible lexan underneath the mat to give it some "give") much softer on my joints than the CCE even though the CCE is much thicker.

Also, if you believe the research behind Divot Action, it is much closer to spin rates off of natural grass. It feels good to me but I have not (yet) done any ball stat comparisons to prove this true.

Fiberbuilt Flight Deck works with ST but the fibers are quite high so make sure you raise your ST high enough so base of ST is at same height as top of fibers.

As for hitting outdoors on grass, don't have any photos and haven't hit outdoors on grass w ST for a while (esp given winter now). But I just put ST on grass w legs of FMJ screwed all the way up (or in) making it sit just a tiny bit above ground (even to grass). You will get a decent amount of misreads due to grass kicking up and sunlight. To deal w the sunlight, just make sure your ST's back is facing the sun (i.e., sun not shining into the camera) and it should make the sunlight problem a little bit better. Hope this helps.

I have a cce mat and had issues with it with my irons. My swing apparently does not agree with the thickness of the mat. I get low launching, short flying iron shots. I was planning on getting a Fiber Built. I bought an strip of mat from an Ebay seller who sells CCE mat but I got a different kind and crossed my fingers that it might work since it was just around 60 usd. Well it worked for me. I hit 2 hours straight with my irons and my low launching, short flying iron shots were gone. Most importantly no pain and no misreads whatsoever.

With the Fiber Built, I tried my ST at a local golf store here and they have a FB mat and it works perfectly fine.

cmckelvmi Not sure if this is called fiber build but ST reads from it. Do have the occasional non reads as many of us seem to get once in a while.

I have all of the mats I ranked below. I also did some testing between them for spin and for me, there was not much of a difference that my lack of skill couldn't mask. As far as preventing any injury I would rank them as follows from best to worst, and there is a huge difference between the truestrike and CCE. Some don't have any problems with the CCE but quite a few do.

              Fiberbuilt
              Magstrike
              Divot Action
              TrueStrike
              CCE

The issue with mat is you have to buy the mat that is closet to the kind of turf you are going to be hitting from on courses that you normally play. I can say that on course where the turf is more compact/hard, if you are used to hitting on Firberbuilt mat, you won't get the same kind of result in real life, and CCE would be a better fit. On the other hand if you typically play on nice course with good turf where you can take big divot w/o trying then Fiberbuilt is probably a much better choice.

What is below the CCE makes a big difference. I previously was throwing my CCE down on the cement and it was pretty harsh (though I never had any injuries). I wanted to level out my surface so I built a wooden platform and subsequently made a much softer hitting surface. My father in law put some carpet under his to soften the blow.
