Swing and ball performance comparison - mortals vs pros

An instructor I use gave me a copy of a chart he refers to. It is swing statistic data he got from one of the simulator ($$$) manufacturers. I use it when hitting with the skytrak and find it useful. It shows both PGA and LPGA performance by club. I never thought i would be aspiring to "hit it like a girl." But, at 61, the LPGA numbers look pretty good to me.

I thought some of you may be interested in the numbers. Enjoy.

Thanks - incredibly useful. I'll look at my ST averages and see how they compare, but I'm pretty sure that a lot of my numbers are SPOOKILY close to LPGA averages. One of my grand projects is to produce a spreadsheet exactly like the one that you posted with each stat averaged over say 200 shots (only including the non-fails of course) so that I have all my data for every club when I hit it decently. I am about half way to doing this. I am also including other "clubs" like PW (down the handle) and GW (dth) and 8, 9, PW, GW, SW at 9 o'clock and 10.30.

I just turned 60, and like Steves55347 I am very happy to be "hitting it like a girl" - particularly if it's like the best golfing females in the world. I suspect that if I could be put into a machine that forced me to drive like Rory or DJ I would break in half and all my arms and legs would fly off in random directions.

If you're hitting the ball on par with the best female players in the world then no shame in that. I'm 41 and 1 back surgery in and I'm in between the PGA and LPGA numbers for ball speed and distance per club. Most of us here aren't sniffing those PGA men stats anyhow.
if you're having an issue opening the OP link here's the trackman blog with the numbers..

That's the one I've been using. Makes me feel good when I hit the same numbers as someone a foot shorter, a hundred pounds lighter and (supposedly) weaker then me !

.Yeah but look at it this way, they are the best at what they do in the whole world.if I could hit as consistent as them and make the money they do I wouldn't care one bit if I'm hitting like a girl lol

I have always felt that absolutely anyone can become a really really great golf player if they put in the time. I would say your ceiling is somewhat limited if trying to learn good golf as an adult vs starting as a kid.

If you look closely at past great golfers, many were not super athletic, or rediculously strong, they just pounded thousands of golf balls and learned to hit them far and with accuracy.

If you put the time in, i firmly believe anyone will improve drastically. Finding that time is the hard part.

This is something I've always looked at Trackman stats, might be the same.

Also, while I would feel a little uneasy about comparing my stats to a female, I was watching the Australia "The Golf Show" last night, and the latest episode had female long drive champ Phillis Meti (well former champ), playing with the single digit handicap male host, and she made him look like a beginner, with just her regular swing. Comments like "oh don't aim there, just hit it over the tree at the green", pointing at a massive tree, which he then hit and she cleared by a mile. They did a slowmo caddy view of her doing a normal drive, and it is a thing of beauty, all efficiency and sequencing. I would be massively happy to have her swing and stats.

Wow, I have been comparing myself to these stats for years, I thought they were common knowledge by now for the serious player. Its amazing though to see what an efficient golf swing can get you. Lady pros are the proof that you don't need to be way buff or super tall to hit it a mile and control it. Something I have always preached as truth.

Distance off the tee accounts for about 20 percent of the strokes you give up to a pro. Pick up 6 mph clubhead speed, gives 10 mph ball speed gain, 20 yard increase in distance. 20 yards is worth 1.5 strokes per round for a 10 handicapper.

Approach accuracy explains about 40 percent of strokes you give up to a pro. For example, from 100 yards, pros average 16 feet from the pin whereas a 10 handicapper averages 33.

The great thing about ST is that it gives us accurate numeric feedback about both distance and accuracy, which makes practicing more enjoyable.
