So been trying to get the wifey out on the sim forever and of course last night when she finally does only the shanks and mishits read! SHE WAS NOT IMPRESSED. She plays Ping L GE clubs that have an off white shaft. Seems that on the better hit shots, shaft and ball must have a similar flight path and wouldn't read. I taped the lower half of one club with black tape and misreads are gone. Anybody else experience anything like that? Obviously taping all her clubs would be a pain, but nothing more discouraging than hitting what you think is a good shot and nothing happens.

White shaft causing misreads?

Thanks for the replies. Seems swing speed must play into it. Those with woods and drivers say no problem, white shafted irons a problem. Guess I tape the shafts till she builds swing speed! FYI, I had some flat black athletic tape which seem to work well.

Interesting observation, MikeAs. I wonder if the shaft deflection is what keeps white wood shafts from being a problem. Or perhaps the higher smash means that the ball separates from the club much earlier. With a short iron, I can see the ball and the club passing through the ST sensor area at approximately the same time.

I had exactly the same issue two years ago when I switched to a white shaft, and posted on here about it, and talked to Seth about it.
Seems like it's always been there, probably because the shaft and ball are in the picture. As you've found, black tape up the shaft from the hosel fixes it, as does changing shafts...
You might find that moving ball position slightly to the right (for a righty) might also cure the problem, as the ball and shaft move at different speeds.
