I have had the SkyTrak now for 3 months and LOVE IT!!!!! That being said until tonight i would align it by sight. Tonight i purchased a Bosch laser level and holy hell what a difference. If i hit a inch left of the target it goes left a inch right it goes right its amazing what a difference it makes. Now that i have that figured out i was hoping i could figured out distance. I had the course to myself sunday and fired 10 balls at 125 yard par 3. 7 of the 10 where "decent shots" right around the 121 distance with my Pitching Wedge. Tonight i hit 25 balls all the sim and was averaging 111. On the real course every ball stopped on a dime or back spun a little. On the SkyTrack i set it to soft to simulate greens but im curious where the 10 yards went. I notice this with all clubs this was just the best hard evidence. Also it was flat, no wind, temperature and altitude where set close to the same. Any tips on figuring out distance?

How does the bosch laser level help that a pair of parallel alignment rods can't pls? I'm still struggling with a left biased alignment issue.

Hi Stuss02, so its basically turning on alignment mode, firing a laser so that it goes through both red dots and seeing where on your screen that the laser hits it? And what you're saying is that if you tried to do this manually using alignment sticks that you'd be a lot less accurate? If this is the case what does the bosch do that a cheap laser pen would not?
Cheers,

Skytrakspiderman: If it’s the type of laser alignment that I’m assuming...the Bosch will not only shine the red line through the dots...just as a pen would...but also shine a light up vertically on the screen/net/wall. Giving you an exact reference to where center is on screen/net. VERY easy way to square up your skytrak while hitting balls. And in response to nicklas...you are correct in that SkyTrak’s official stance is to align parallel to SkyTrak’s plastic body. BUT myself and others have noticed it is more accurate to align with some units to the laser dots...as evidenced to the original posters testing and in my similar testing. Whether it be manufacturing tolerances...don’t know.Last edited by N54TT; 03-01-2018, 06:31 PM.

I also bought a laser level and do not regret it one bit. Having my sim in the garage I have to move my ST more often than not. Eyeballing with alignment sticks can be done but using the laser to line up the actual skytrak has mitigated much frustration. I got the level off amazon and it was the best $50 spent.

Which one did you purchase from Amazon?
Do you have the model number?
I struggle with alignment due to my limited space and how I have my mats. I cut an area into my stance mat for a Fiber Built Flight Deck, which works great, but the ST alignment dots are useless due to the two different mat types/height.
I also take my ST out of my area since it is in the garage and we live on a dirt road. Concerned about too much dirt and dust getting into/on the ST when not using. Means I need to realign the ST every session.

This is the one I bought. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I don't use the dots. I put the level about 3 feet up on a box behind my hitting area. I make sure the red line is parallel to target on the screen/net approx 11 3/4" to the right of the target line. The red laser dot for the ball is approximately that distance from the ST but it can't hurt to double check your measurements. I then align the grey/black case portion that sits just a tad higher than the white top with the red line from the level(hopefully that makes sense. If it doesn't look straight down at your ST and it might be a better visual. If not let me know). Takes just a couple mins to get things all square and I feel is much easier than trying to align 2 red dots or a case with alignment sticks and assuming my eyes are interpreting everything correctly, ie taking the guess work out of what I see as pretty much the only major shortcoming of ST.

It's funny you made the comment about hitting shots at 121 and only getting 111 at home. I have found that my ST is consistently off about 10 yards. I know there are a lot of other variables that come into play when you are hitting outside but I have found a consistent 10 yards when playing on the SIM or ST range vs. real golf.

Interesting about the ST vs real life yardage difference. The million dollar question is what is causing it. Possible culprits:
1. Ball may be different
2. Most mats will give higher launch & lower spin. This can affect distance, but not sure which way.
3. ST ball speed may be low.
4. ST flight model may be low on distance.
One way to get more info would be to bring it to the course. Also, compare ball speed to Trackman or Flightscope. In the cases where that has been done, the ST does come up a bit short on ball speed. To partially compensate for this, I put the altitude at 2500 and temp at 90. Since i am at sea level in Canada, this should give me a couple of extra yards.
