  • Skytrak drawing/ pulling all shots

I been playing golf 20+ years 11 handicap and have always been a cut hitter. I could never hit a draw. Since day one of getting my skytrak I consistently pull or draw all my shots bad on the skytrak. I have actually had to turn my skytrak 25 degrees to show a straight shot. The skytrak is level with the mat and the unit itself is level. I also use a fmj. Any was hoping someone could give me some insight as to why my monitor shows consistent pulls and this is with all my clubs.

    Try this:

    1. Align the ST parallel to target line.
    2. Lay a stick out to indicate target line, and ideally tape a mark on screen or net and/or hang a string on target line.
    3. Take a low/mid iron, and hit a largerish chip shot (say 20 yard carry) straight down the target line.
    4. If the shot was straight in real life, check what ST indicates.
    5. If ST read a pull or push, rotate ST and repeat until it reads straight (if you have to rotate ST more than say 5 degrees off target line, there is likely an issue and you should contact Skytrak support)
    6. Now swing full. Any discrepancy should be due to your actual ball flight rather than the ST.

It seams from reading forum that most people have a lot of left shots for right handed golfers. There has been a lot of talk on forum about reasons for this go back and read some old post. I know I have a lot of hook or left spin on my skytrak, some times 2,000 left spin with 4,000 back spin that is a lot of hook spin.

That is why i recommend a chip type shot when checking alignment. Not enough spin to take the ball offline. If chips are straight but full swings are not, clearly user, not ST issue.

Tom, how do I find all relevant posts on this as I'm new to skytrak and have the same problem (I currently have an outdoor setup)? I am very frustrated with my unit at the moment, consistently showing my ball going straight left or bending left and sometimes 60 yards left, which is absolute nonsense as on the course, I'm pretty straight or right (rarely left but if left, no more than 15 yards). I have angled the unit both ways (open to target first of course) and probably 20 degrees open, still left. When hitting it indoors, I don't seem to have the same problem but atm I can only confidently hit a 9i without fear of hitting the ceiling. I haven't given up on the unit yet but right now, just feel like sending it back. Thanks Dave

Morini has some really good advice there. Medium speed shot that you make solid BALL first contact with. This eliminates the club bounce from a mat first hit.

Sad to say, I speak from a lot of experience. Mat first hit reads as a pull or will add a ton if hook spin. Hurts the wrists also!!

Definitely...depending on the mat too and lie angle at impact....if the hosel end hits the mat first.....it can really cause the club face to close (maybe even more so than typical fairway) before impacting the ball...resulting in excess side spin.

Are you just hitting it indoors? If yes, what is your ceiling height as you might be flattening your swing without knowing it.

Indoors I experience that a lot of people aim towards the center of the screen rather along the aiming line. In Skytrak you can Adjust offsetin settings. Choose "camera angle" and adjust the line to where you aim.

Did you test the skytrak at the range? Does the strokes in Skytrak look different from the real ball path?

Well thank you for all responses. I tried all your suggestions and this helped a lot. First thing I found is that my mat sits 2 and 1/4 inch off the floor and skytrak was at 1 and 3/4 inches so I adjusted accordingly. Morini I tried your suggestion and found 20 yard chips we're going dead straight and on full swings I was subconsciously aiming at the middle of net and not my target line. I made appropriate adjustments. This was my 3rd session on Skytrak and the experience has improved 10 fold after making correct adjustments.

Logged into TGC and played 2 rounds at Pinehurst and shot a 90 then a 92 not great but huge improvement from previous rounds I have played.

          Thanks again!

I think Morini and StanMi is right the best way to setup alignment is with short 15 to 20 yd’s shots. I use a 90 degree laser from back side. Line up laser through laser from skytrak to c/l of driving range c/l, use a scale to measure from skytrak to laser line. Tip the scale up on a angle laser line will hit scale I get unity p/l to laser line that way. We have to remember with 2 degrees + or - hit c/l will not give 0.0 reading ever time, but with 5 or 10 shots will average out 0.0. With my setup 130 inches to screen 2 degrees is only 4 1/2 inches off c/,l at the end of the day skytrak more accurate than I am for sure.

              Hi Tom,

I don’t have my SkyTrak yet but want to use your advice with laser levels.

If you have the time can you expand on this with a little more detail?
I am having a hard time picturing exactly what to do. Not knowing what c/l and p/l refer to doesn’t help either. Lol

              Thank you sir!
