    Skytrak Questions. Putting,Tees,TGC,etc

    Hi guys,
I just setup my sim with my Skytrak. I am blown away so far. I have some questions for the forum if you have time to help:

    1. I am really struggling with TGC and putting; I am blessed to be a really good putter in real life but I have no concept for distance and speed when my screen is 6 feet from me. Do you guys have any advice on how to help with distances (tape on the floor etc). How does putting work? Is it just measuring ball roll or is it a window. If it rolls off my hitting mat onto carpet its not still detecting it with a wide angle is it?

    2. Has putting on the skytrak messed up your real game? Should I just take the gimmies and not have my score count in terms of the online play? As I said its my strongest part of my game and I can't afford to mess it up.

    3. I have only been hitting my irons but want to try the tomahawk tees. Do you just place a tee closer to the skytrak so that the laser it? Do you not feel crazy close to the skytrak then?

    4. I noticed TGC shows club path; that is all calculated from ball spin right? The Skytrak does not detect club face right?

    5. My sktrak has stopped working a couple times. One time no laser came back (two green one red light) and another it wouldn't detect any balls (all three green lights); is this a known issue? I had to power cycle the device for it to work again.

    Thanks in advance!

1/2)If you do a search on putting with skytrak you will come back with a large number of threads. A lot with similar concerns/issues that you have. The mat you have plays a roll on how it 'feels' when putting, but one thing you should definitely do is download the patch that is available for straight putts with skytrak in TGC. Skytrak tolerances make for less than reliable/perfect reads of the putts. The path to download is http://golf.symftp.net/download/patch/TGCPatch3.0.2.exe I pulled it from this topic https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum...ng-skytrak-tgc
Personally, I use the 'on the green' option in TGC when just practicing on my own so I don't have to worry about putting and it speeds the rounds along. For tournaments you can not do this. You have to set it to 'Gimme' which gives you puts within approx 6ft. Outside that you are putting. Overtime you will get more used to putting on the sim. As for impact to real world, I do find that when I take my first couple practice shots on the practice putting green i come up a bit short. But that is an easy adjustment. I do believe it has helped with my actual form/stroke.

    3. For driver, place the tee about an inch behind the red dot(farther from the screen. Might take a couple shots to get the right placement, but generally an inch or two behind the red dot works. It should not be placed closer to the skytrak.

4.The club path info is not useful/accurate unless you have the Rmotion which will then give club data. Skytrak only captures the ball data, it does not capture club data.

    5. I have had this happen from time to time. usually when I switch over frm the skytrak app to tgc. I have to turn the unit off then on and then i am good to go. In game it is less frequent, but when it does I believe it has to do with my internet connection dropping out and things freezing up. I am in a detached garage with sometimes shaky wifi signal strength.

For putting you need to work out what backswing length produces a given ball speed and consequently a certain distance. If you have something like a blast motion this makes capturing backswing length much easier.

Then you need to go on a practise green and make approx the same length backswing a few times (e.g. 6"). This should produce a fairly consistent ball speed which will result in a typical distance.

rinse and repeat this for a number of backswing lengths (9", 12", 15"). Then plot this in excel and you will get a chart which details backswing vs distance. You can then lookup the required backswing length based on the distance required...

        5) Occasionally it just won't pick up anything on a full shot but hitting a second time almost always seems to pick up the shot. If it doesn't pick it up a second time then I usually reset. Chip shots are another thing altogether. For shorter shots I used to have to set the ball a little in front of the laser and a little closer to the SkyTrak. That seemed to help a bit. I recently had the unit in for repair which solved a problem I was having but now I find I need to put the ball further from the SkyTrak and in front of the line for those same shots. If you come across the issue again and it is not a full shot then experiment with ball placement a little.

What James James said is exactly what I did. Sim putting has actually helped my IRL putting. Problem is I have to pace off my putts now so I know exactly how far of a putt I'm looking at IRL :-).
