  • Short pitch accuracy

For those of you interested in game improvement, I just had a chance to test accuracy of pitches in the 15 to 75 yard range.

    1. Beautiful sunny day with no wind
    2. I used the exact mat I use indoors.
    3. I used a range finder to verify, it introduces some errors.
4 . I started in the 35 to 45 range. Skytrak was dead on or one yard long every time.
    5. Went down to 15. Skytrak averaged two long. Sometimes three, sometimes 1.
    6. Went to 75 yards and ST averaged 3 long. I then unjuiced my ST by bringing it down to actual 500 feet from 2500. It was now 2 short, so I went to 1000, which was bang.
    7. Retested 15 yards, still 2 long.
    8. I used premium balls, but only remembered to bring two, so I had to run back and forth. I decided to try my florescent red Wilson duo practice balls. Read a whopping 10 long EVERY time

Nice information! Are you able to determine your carry distance or are you range finding your total distance?

I measured carry, probably accurate to a few inches. I do presume about 1 yard error on the range finder. In the end, I am satisfied that the Skytrak is accurate enough to groove exact carry distances on 20+ yard pitches.

I may have to make minor adjustments on the course, due to grass launching lower but with more spin. Maybe total distance and/or carry will be similar but with slightly different trajectories. It should be close, but when you are 30 yards away, every foot closer to the hole makes a difference.
