Moving SkyTrak for Driver?

I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger on SkyTrak. I've read a great deal on this forum regarding SkyTrak and have a question regarding placement of the unit, etc., to help with consistent reads. I'm still unsure on whether most of you find it necessary to move the SkyTrak box for reading hits with the driver vs other clubs in the bag. Seems a bit of a nuisance if that is the case with many of you. May or may not be a deal breaker for me but I am curious.

I'm sure the type of mat plays a role along with what type of tee used (I use 3-1/4" tees on the course). Other than this anomaly, the SkyTrak system appears very impressive for the money. Appreciate any thoughts/tips regarding the Driver vs other clubs when aligning the laser to the ball. I'm sure some of you have nailed this process down.

I never move the SkyTrak once I start a practice session. I just line it up as squared as possible with my mat and fire away. I do move the ball placement from irons to driver. With irons the ball is essentially placed on or very close to the red dot. When I tee it up for the driver I place the Tomahawk tee about 2-3 inches toward the ST and about 2-3 inches away from the target direction. The other thing I do only with the driver is make sure the logo on the ball is facing the ST.

Skytrak doesnt need to be moved. In my experience the ball can be placed within a 2-3 inch diameter circle centered on the laser dot. In my case, I use a mat with a built in tee holder. The laser dot sits about 1 inch outside of the tee holder. This lets me hit off of tees with driver, and hit off the mat directly with irons. I dont need to move the skytrak to get reads on both.

If you are using tomahawk tees or something like that, its even easier. You just hit everything directly on the laser dot.

Shardak, is that a fiberbuilt hitting strip you are using? If so, can you tell me what the dimensions are of your hitting strip and what yo paid for it? I'm guessing you had to call Fiberbuilt to order this as a "special order"? Thanks

I agree completely with all opinions above, I bought one in 2015 and assume they only get better with new versions but mine has been great for 3 years. I can get occasional missed shots but if I follow the above ball setup advice they are just almost non existent, I have never proved it but the suggestion that the ST like seeing a logo or printing on the ball seem correct to me as well. Enjoy...

Stupid question, but if you follow the setup advice and have the base of the tee on the red dot, then why all the fuss about having the device level with the hitting surface when you hit off the mat because obviously, the ball sitting on the tee is way above the level of the base of the device.
