  • Skytrak works great with Game improvement but locks up with TGC

So, New to the forum, New to Skytrak, and very new to the TGC software. THis if my first post and after some attempts to find the ready information I'm gonna go ahead and throw the questions I have out there and hope, but doubt, that they haven't been answered a 100 times before.

    My situation is this.

I have the Skytrak game improvement software of course. It works very well. Reads almost every shot. Misreads are very rare and I never have to restart or reconnect.

    However. When I attempt to play rounds on the TGC;

I will get to a certain point in the round where suddenly the red laser is there...I will hit a shot. Often the laser stays on and the top indicator light green. I think it just missed the shot so I try again. The second time it usually shows that the skytrak registered a shot but it doesn't want to show up on the TGC. The laser doesn't want to come back on.

I check the TGC interface and it says it is still connected to the unit.

    * side note - Often when I press escape and come back tot he shot and or switch around clubs...like work my way all the way through the bag to the putter then back to the club i was using it will suddenly send the shot tot he software...but this is rare.

Usually if i shut down the interface and restart it ..go back in to the game i can pick up where i left off but only for a shot maybe 2.....

Yesterday i was going to restart the TGC when i noticed it was telling me that i had gone offlline in the main home screen on the TGC. Also there was a message board at the bottom which i dont believe I have seen before that said i had gone offline. I clicked the " go online" and it was not successful.

    Restarting everything
    1. Skytrak
    2. TGC interface
    2. TGC software

is the only thing that get it going that i have found so far...at least until the next discconnect.

The bad thing is that i have to do ths at leas once to three times a roudn very annoying, time consuming, and i lose a hole or two of play ( ahve to redo them).

    My setup;............................................ ..

Im running the software on a lenovo LEE1580H1X01.

Im connected to he skytrak via USB

My computer is connected to the internet via WIFI hotpsot on my phone

Any help or advise would be very much appreciated. I've spent a ton of time looking for the answer and just havne't found one yet.

Check your internet speed on http://speedtest.net . When TGC is switching to OFFLINE mode it is unable to communicate with the servers.

When you hit a shot and the laser stays on and all leds stay green, then the SkyTrak hardware has not picked up the shot at all. The data is being processed when the laser disapears an the top led turns red.

Thanks very much for the response!! I will work on the internet connection. Do you happen to know if the internet connection being intermittent will affect the software's ability to process the shot information. Most often, in retrospect, it is the laser going off and the hole system just freezing. So does the loss of sever connection cause that or is it something else?

Is there anything else i should be checking?

Does "freezing" means TGC gets unresponsive? If you hit <ESC> is the pause menu still showing?

When you switch clubs using the Z and X keys on your keyboard, TGC will send a re-arm unit command to the SkyTrak which should turn the top led green and the laser back on. Find out if that is still working.

If the SkyTrak shot data does not reach TGC, then TGC will not re-arm the SkyTrak automatically. A good test is to switch TGC into OFFLINE mode (GO OFFLINE button from the main menu). Play one of courses available in OFFLINE mode. This way you can test if the system remains stable when there is no internet coms.

In this case i meant "Freezing" as the " red light" is on on the top of the skytrak comes on, the laser is off...and it stays that way. As though it is trying to send the shot but cant get through. The software itself is responsive to commands. The Z and X key fix has worked a couple of times but rarely for more than a shot or two.

I will take your advice and play a local game in the offline mode.

I'd also mention that iI have seen in some posts today that users are having more luck connecting the skytrak via network ( over the router) rather than the USB mode. I cant see how but I will also test that.

Again thanks for you for your time and responses.

I will come back with my findings later this evening.

Also...to clarrify. When the X and Z fix has worked...or going out to the main menu then going back in to the game....the shot that seems to have jammed the system does in fact go through. Im not having to hit that shot again.

So its like its the information is jammed in the path somewhere

This sounded familiar and then I noticed you are using USB mode. My experience is that SkyTrak can be sensitive when plugged into USB. I was finally able to resolve this myself by upgrading to a new power strip.

Here is my old thread on the issue and my debugging.. good luck!
