33-50% of shots not recognized/non-reads -SOLVED-

Hey all,
Been really struggling lately with my SkyTrak. I've only had it for 2 weeks at this point. During range play (all I have been doing at this point) the SkyTrak is not reading a lot of my shots. Just this morning I was somewhere between 33 and 50 % of my shots just weren't recognized/read by SkyTrak. I see this with both IOS and Android. SkyTrak is level, it's level with my playing surface, etc etc etc.

One question I had was fluorescent lighting. I have these garage shop fluorescent lights hanging right above my hitting mat. Do these type of lights cause an issue with SkyTrak? If yes, what are other folks using for lighting?

Try it without the lights on and see if there is a difference. Also, is there anything light colored or reflective in the background?

If you have any windows in the garage try covering them up.

When I had y Skytrak i used in mainly in a Barn/Garage. Middle of playing one of the tournament's I started getting a lot of no reads. Covered the window and the problem was gone.

Thanks for the suggestions.

1) If fluorescent lighting is indeed the issue then what are folks using to light their indoor spaces to not impact SkyTrak?
2) I assume open windows/open doors are ok as long as the light isn't hitting directly at the unit?

Just read through following post which brought up a great point on garage setups. I'm pretty sure I had my car behind me when I get the misreads which may impact the SkyTrak. I will remove the car from the garage and try to setup a black backdrop behind me to eliminate this as being the issue. Thanks again for the responses.

I have the same issues with my skytrak. One day it seems to work fine with ONLY about 5 to 10% no reads. The next day it gives 30% or more no reads. It usually only no reads good, well struck shots. I do not have flouresant lighting. I do have a window but its on the backside of the skytrak, and I have same problems weather or not its dark our daylight outside.

I do not believe lighting is the problem, nor do I believe its a setup problem. My unit is 1.5 yrs old and I have always had these issues. I think some of the skytrak units are faulty but ill be damned if im paying hundreds more to get it looked at just to have them say nothing is wrong.

Some of the obvious culprits have been mentioned. A couple of things that may help troubleshoot: Do some clubs misread more than others? Are the balls white and in reasonable shape? Does turning logo towards ST affect reads?

Yeah, another frustrating session just now as I had a lot of misreads tonight unfortunately. I'm working on my swing and when I really want the feedback I end up with a no read. Super frustrating.

1) I used a white ball with markings on it and made sure the markings were facing the device. Is there a particular place the ball needs to be on the dot? Right on it? Right behind it? In front? left? right?

2) Is there some sort of diagnostic mode we can put this thing in to share data? Would love to be able to share this data with SkyTrak or be able to self diagnose or something?

I've posted this several times in regards to the best ball for less no reads.

I had the best results with the Callaway Red and White soccer ball (Truvis). According to Seth it's not supposed to make a difference because the unit uses an infrared camera and red turns to Gray when imaged. If you search my posts Seth has posted a photo of what the ball looks like to Skytraks camera.

I still say...... IMHO.....I got the least no reads with this ball. I'm sure blocking all outside light and just overhead spot lights and no fluorescent lighting contributed.

I have the BenQ MW632ST projector, with any bright light and a larger screen size the screen image looks washed out. I have a small desk lamp that points at my impact location and 3 small overhead spot lights that light up a putting path. It's really much brighter then it sounds but this keeps light off the impact screen and really makes the projector image pop.

Wish I could change the title of this thread as I think I may have solved my setup issue. I have a true strike mat which is pretty high up off ground. I had my skytrak in the case with the pegs as high as they could go to get the unit level with the mat. This apparently isn't good enough even though the unit looks level with the turf/mat.

Tonight I started off like this and it wouldn't register a single shot. I finally decided to put the skytrak in the case on the hitting mat with me with the pegs all the way down. This seemed to do the trick for me as I had 1-2 misreads the whole night with close to 100 shots. For now I'm going to call my situation good/solved with this configuration.

That is one of the reasons why i asked if all clubs failed equally. The sensor had to see the ball. If woods work better than short irons, the ST is likely sitting too low to hitting surface. If woods are not reading, it could be the opposite, or in some cases caused by white clubhead or shaft.

I believe that the vast majority.of no read issues are related to setup and are are solvable. It would be great if the ST software could give suspected reason for no read: Network, cluttered image, partial ball view etc.

i had the same problem when in my garage, 99% non reads, gave up using the unit for a month or so i was so frustrated plus i was able to golf outside. took it outside in the shade this weekend and had almost 100% reads so clearly it is something going on in my garage but not sure what.

Post pics of your setup from all angles and maybe we can give you some pointers if something stands out.
Don't have ST sitting on hitting mat
Use new clean white balls with logo facing ST
Make certain bottom of ST is at same height or slightly higher than hitting mat
No ambient light entering room
No white or light colored background opposite of ST
Trial moving ball placement around from laser dot
