i am looking to build a sim in my finished basement. I don't have good wifi down there, is it a requirement for skytrak with projector setup? Also, the ceilings are really high, 12', what challenges does this cause?

I use Skytrak with a Rukket Pro net, works fine for me. I don’t love the net (back clips and bungees kind of stink design wise) but it’s good and works. Surprising not a strong desire to go the projector route.
I use an iPad and play WGT. I also have an appleTV to mirror the iPad to a TV which is mounted to an a/v cart. Love this.
As for WiFi I use a FiOS coaxial connected range extender and it works fine. Others have said repeaters are ok, might be worth the $20-30 investment.

High ceilings are a blessing not a challenge. For projectors there are adjustable ceiling mounts to drop the projector down. 9’-10’ ceiling clearance is ideal for your setup.

Is internet required if I can't get good speeds with an extender?

You can use the skytrak software (range, skills assessment etc...) without internet. If you want to play WGT you do need internet though. It says you need good internet speed. Im not sure what speed you need exactly but i hit in my garage and i dont have the greatest internet speed in there and it works perfectly

For the other sims on a PC, im not sure as i haven't gotten around to using them yet but i'd assume you dont need internet unless you plan on doing on-line tournaments. I could be wrong though

We recently purchased a SkyTrak to replace our OptiShot - for use in a spare bedroom with a 10' ceiling.

We used foam balls with the OptiShot, and had quite a few mis-reads (since it's only measuring the club face - not the ball).

Purchasing the SkyTrak was only the beginning.

Consistent with forum comments, we were disappointed in how much distance we were losing when using foam balls. So we purchased The Net Return Simulator Series, to provide us a combination projection screen and enclosure, which we could use with real golf balls (it took us a few days to get comfortable hitting real balls in a bedroom...).

Then we started looking for alternatives to the inexpensive hitting mat we were using to tee up the balls. Because the mat was relatively hard, we were using tees for every shot - which increases the setup time for every shot.

So we purchased a Fiberbuilt - and instead of using the supplied tee holes, we also bought some Birtees that can be used on top of the grass mat for tee shots, and we can hit directly off the mat for fairway shots with irons and woods.

Our major remaining problem is the short game around the green - the OptiShot (using E6 Golf) tends to miss or mis-read chips, and we haven't found a way to consistently putt from the fringe onto the green.

Overall though, the combination of SkyTrak, Net Return, Fiberbuilt and Birtee is working great for us with E6 Golf - and looking forward to getting E6 Connect as soon as SkyGolf completes their support for E6 Connect.
