  • TGC and SkyTrak Chipping Rollout Hurting Real Game... Advice?

As the golf season is coming to a close, I have noticed that almost all of my chips in real golf this summer have been noticeably short ALMOST ALWAYS and I can't help but wonder how the excessive rollout in TGC with SkyTrak has influenced this. Could I practise more in real life, sure; however, I am wondering

    a) if there will ever be a fix for this and if it's the SkyTrak Hardware or the TGC Software model?

    b) has anyone switched mats and had better luck spinning the ball?

    c) Any other advice? I feel like a 20 yard chip in TGC goes 10 yards in real life almost. I'm at the point now that I know I really have to adjust that IRL but it's kind of a pain and I can't imagine a software fix for this is that hard....

    Thanks!

PS I make sure I'm in chipping mode and I've put HIGH BACK SPIN CORRECTION to OFF and On and haven't noticed much difference. Should it be in the On position if I'm getting too much roll out?

Notice the same here. I usually need a good 30 minutes on the practice green and chipping to adjust my speed and distances.

Weird I feel the rollout in TGC is not enough. The ball hits the green and sticks, hardly rolling out at all. Every software is different I guess I use a 52 degree to chip on TGC and have to use a 60 degree on JNPG because I cant get a ball to stop rolling on that one alot of the time . In real life I use a 56 a bunch around the green. Definitely can screw you up a little bit though.

Have you ruled out your mat influence on your sim shots? Mats are notorious for reducing spin on all shots off of them. Low spin and chipping means lots of potential roll out. Not sure what stimp might be in the game as well. That would also play a big roll if it differs a lot from your home course.

I do believe most of mine issues are mat related. Planning on a buying a true stike next year for several reasons.

Also, agree stimp factors alot. Like I said the reason for me going before a round to chip and putt. I play mostly on bent and its god awful slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

Played four round on Bermuda this summer and was like WHOA!!! Slow down ball!

Mines the other way around. I get the ball to check up quite quickly on tgc but much more role out in real life. I’ve put it down to perfect lie on true strike mat and mostly chipping out of rough in real life.

Thanks for the input everyone! A couple of questions then...

              1) People have noticed the ability to get more spin with a TrueStrike mat?
              2) Does the High Back Spin Correction being set to off work for Chipping or All Shots? Thanks again!

Skytrak has tons of rollout on greens, GC2 has virtually none. Took me quite a bit to get used to.

Perhaps TGC or Skytrak need to tweak the short game correction? I have a different sim software, I get too much roll out at times due to my mat and LOFT.

I used the same mat, completely different outcome. Yes i went from ST to GC2.

I would try to hit about 10 shots with 10yd carry on both ST and TGC (with short game correction both on and off) and see what the data tells you. I believe you will see that spin is lower in TGC w/short game on vs ST data on skygolf.

I personally think it is a matter of repetition and simply adapting to environment. Much like how one knows their home course best. Suspect indoor frequency is much greater than outdoor frequency, just my thought and experience.

I feel this way about putting. Greens are so fast in TGC tournaments. Real greens especially courses i play are way slower.

This night sound silly, while I understand how a 60 yard carry shot carries over into real life, I'm not sure hiw a 9 yard chip does? Maybe because I'm on a TV rather than a projector?

I noticed using just any ball I got a lot more roll out.
I use prov’s and z stars on my sim and quieted the roll out quite a bit.
Also mats generally give you more spin.. in my experience that is. Depends on your mat I guess

I plan to formally test this still (there is another thread about mats and spin) but I theorize that the more grippy the mat material, the less spin you typically get. I could be wrong but that is why I intend to test it formally. Its a ball/mat friction issue. Less friction of the mat, the more the ball can freely roll up the face of the club and spin. If the mat has high friction, it stops the ball from rotating up the face upon club contact and instead tends to skid more. It might be slight but seems to be significant.

Again, I could be very wrong, that is just my initial impressions and guess.
