    Pull / draw bias advice

    Hi all,

I've had my ST since the summer and up til today I had only used it in my indoor setup. My natural shot is a fade with a tendency to hit horrendous push-fades - I've been playing for eight years and it's been with me that whole time. Anyway, every single shot I have hit indoors is a huge pull-hook, without fail. They usually land anywhere between 25 and 50 yards left of target with left side spin in the very high hundreds or frequently over 1000. I can deliberately hit a big OTT with a really weak grip and a wide open face and I know by feel and the way the ball comes back off the impact screen that it went way right, it shows up on the software as a big old straight pull. Back spin is very odd too, 9 iron ~2500.

I have the ST perfectly aligned both by the FMJ case edge and the dots, they both match up and I run tape down the target line along the floor. It sits level with the ball and the spirit level and software both agree it is in perfect position. I use a clean white ball, marked and always ensure the logo is pointed toward the lens. I hit off a "tee turf" mat (as in the link), also known as monster turf I believe. It's quite spongy I think might be the best way to describe it, it allows you to place a tee directly in the turf.

I've been getting quite frustrated with the large left bias and I've been looking for a solution. I thought I had nailed it when I read about lighting issues because the ST normally sits directly opposite a large window with direct sunlight often streaming through it and onto the lens, so I fitted blinds over the window. I was bitterly disappointed to find it made not one iota of difference.

This led me to the conclusion that there must be something wrong with the unit but before I took steps to have it looked at I thought I would take it to the range today and verify the inaccuracy. Well, I have to say the unit is pretty damn good. I hit 75 shots and I would say two thirds of these were spot on, the other third were either non-reads or marginally out in shape / direction but I'm not too worried about that because sadly the range only has crappy old yellow balls so I knew there might be a few issues.

So, what could be going wrong in my indoor area? Might it be the mat? The range mats are just the standard solid mats with a heavy rubber base, I'm sure their universal. Would it really make that much of a difference? Is there something else going on that I might have missed? I'm mightily relieved the unit seems ok but equally I'm now utterly confused about why this i happening!
Tee Turf allows you to put any tee straight in to the artificial turf.

Try hitting off a tee inside. That will eliminate the mat as a factor. Really grabby mats like that could be closing the clubface causing the pull hook you are seeing

This mat causing pull / draw is not all the cause. I have repaired and builted clubs 47 years. I have lie and loft bending tool, have bend irons 2 to 4 degrees flat to gets toe down strike on a lie broad. Still get pull hooks with club on skytrak the toe down should get a push fade. Toe will strick mat and open club up for a push.

Here could be the issues/cause as I see it
        1. Bad machine
        2. Not aligned correctly
        3. You actually are hitting hooks.

People can be critical of Skytrak for distance readings for driver/3 wood but it’s hard to complain about direction readings.

I didn’t mean to say that skytrak was the total cause of pull / hook, it may be bad read 1% of the time. But mat is not main cause for pull/ hook, in my case the pull / hook is caused by my body stopes turning arms and hands take over and there goes the flip of club head passes hands therefore a pull hook.

I hit big pulls and hooks when I started with my ST. I had the dreaded disease: "indoor swing". However this faded (pun intended) after a while.

Do not underestimate the difference in your swing when you hit indoors. It's hard to sense, but until you get TRULY confident that you won't hit anything (walls, ceilings, projectors, cats etc.) you tend to swing flatter. At least, I did.
