  • Missing Shots

    Hello --

I've tried searching but haven't found quite this issue so please forgive me if this has been discussed and I'm missing. Have had my SkyTrak for right at a year with it missing very very few shots (maybe 1/30). Just in the past week, it's become extremely unreliable. It will pick up 10 shots just fine, then miss the next 5 or 6, then pick one up again, etc. Has anyone experienced something like this / can point me in the right direction?

    Thanks!
    Matt

Mine has been frustrating as well. It's not picking up about one out of every five shots and every other putt. It has also been dropping its connection quite a bit (this was never a problem before). Another thing it's doing is locking up with all three lights green but no laser and unresponsive to shots. This happened twice tonight. It's definitely a temperamental magic box...

I've also had my unit a year and I do feel like I get more no-reads then before.

It reads my irons pretty damn good having the ball right on the light.

I find the hybrids and woods have to be behind the light or closer to the skytrak.

When I drink with friends on the weekend and we get a few drinks too many the no-reads are insane.

I feel like when my drunk swing kicks in I could hit 10 shots in a row without one registering.

From what i've noticed it seems when I have a smooth tempo and keep the clubface square at impact it seems to read more consistent but when alcohol is involved its tough to have the control.

I don't know how else to eliminate the no-reads besides trying the ball in different spots.

My friends aren't really bothered by it but I could see myself upgrading launch monitors in the future based solely on the no-reads.

I get no reads when I hit a flop shot, thin one really bad, or get really underneath the ball by hitting fat. Use to get them when ST was on the same mat I hit off of, just that little bit of movement when club hits the mat seemed to cause problems.

Seth mentioned static electricity causing some issues with USB connections if any of you have that. I think he said they see an uptick in missed shot complaints due to that this time of year.

I noted this in another thread but my no reads seem way up in the last month or two. From virtually non-existent to far more than just noticeable and bordering on really annoying. My unit is closing on a year but a bit less and no changes in my setup (I did get a laptop instead of an iPad but that was literally for just my last session two days ago).

In the other thread Seth mentioned dry winter air can impact USB connection but I’ve asked him to clarify as I use Wi-Fi (and my climate is not dry in any case).

So wi-fi is supposed to be read the shots better than USB in the winter?

Seth confirmed the static issue is a USB only problem. So if that’s your issue then I guess Wi-Fi could work better. I’m on wifi currently (and it’s not dry here) so I’m going to try going the other way.

I’m sure it’s in my mind but I find my no reads are mostly trash shots or the ones I hit perfectly flush (I.e., I hit it and think I can wait to see the numbers then I get a yellow light instead). My average shots seem to read almost all the time.

My Skytrak is not on my mat (I have fiberbuilt practice station) andbits Level etc.

Interesting to hear others have similar issues. I use the direct wifi connection, so the USB issue wouldn't apply here.

USB works fine for me. Basement set up in the Northeast.

I also have been using USB exclusively for two years only to recently start having problems. I’ve tried using rubber mats under all the gear to curb static. I also read in another forum that it could be a dirty power so I got a high end surge protector with USB. Nothing helps. I can start in network mode and it works great. As soon as I plug in the USB cable the SkyTrak stops reading shots. Perhaps your issues would be solved by going network.
                Sorry for double posting.

Switched to USB tonight. Hit 150 balls. Number of missed shots reduced dramatically. I didn’t count but probably about 10 missed (mostly fat shots). Still not as good as when I first got the unit but substantial improvement from last few weeks.

I experience more missed shots in tgc than in Skytrak range.. To reduce missed shots I dim the light in the room and put a spotlight next to the Skytrak. The driver shots I peg 5 cm behind the laser and the high shots I put 5 cm in front of the laser.

Does a spotlight on the mat (hitting zone) next to Skytrak really work well? I’ve been thinking about that. Thx.
