SkyTrak & TGC - does it allow on-course practice?

One thing I loved about OptiShot was that I cold pick a course, pick a spot on the fairway (say 110 yards) and practice hitting shots to the green from that distance.

Does TGC for SkyTrak offer similar functionality?

Yes and no. The current version lets you practice by setting auto-rewind but you have to get to your shot by hitting the ball. You can't just place the ball anywhere. You can also concede holes to get to a hole you want to practice on. There are also lots of user made practice courses.

As Supraracer says you can't pick a spot. I feel like TGC has so many courses and practice ranges. I know personally I've only scratch the surface and it fits my needs.

If I wanna practice a 125 yard shot. I will bump the ball up to about the distance I want with a lob wedge or something. Then when Im at that distance I set it to auto rewind.

Thanks a lot. Since a specific spot can’t be picked I think auto rewind is the feature I’ll be relying on!

Alternatively, is it difficult to build courses and have them approved? If not, I may just build a Par 3 course with holes that are 100, 110, 120, 130, etc. yards long...

There are thousands of courses on TGC and I bet there is one close to what you want. The Skytrak software allows you to set any distance you want to a green and play from there. It's not as graphical as TGC, but it's a great software. My friends and I play the challenges in ST software more than the TGC. The only thing missing is hazards.

Agreed! I'm sure there are several out there. Keyword search on what your're looking for.

"Wedge range" You can see several ranges available for all different clubs.

I also upgraded from optishot and enjoyed that feature as well. My real frustration is not allowing the player to randomly pick a hole, but have to go through the process of conceding each consecutive hole until reaching the desired one. With the amount of famous courses, we just want to play the 17th at TPC sawgrass or amen corner at agusta or 7 at pebble, etc. Has this been addressed in the 2019 version?

Amen corner exists. I think maybe search ks-man. I can’t remember the name

Look for those course on a keyword search. I’ve noticed several popular courses will have only the signature holes available in a course offering.

This would be great but I just use the Skytrak practice. Works well for what it is.

There is no approval process in TGC. So you can make whatever you want as badly as you want and it will be available.

It is quite easy to make an autogenerated course that looks decent in TGC. Greatness takes quite a bit more work though.

With over 140,000 courses in TGC what you want may have been made already.

Is there a manual for the TGC software? I'm enjoying mine but have no idea how to access more than the basic features. For example a list of keyboard shortcuts etc?
