  • Skytrak dead for right handed shots?

Hey guys, we're having an issue with our skytrak launch monitor and I was hoping someone may have some input to help us with this plight.

The Skytrak is about 7 months old and has been used to play over fifty 18 hole courses with no issues. This morning I fired it up and it flat out will not read right handed shots. I hit 100 balls and it picked up only three.

During my troubleshooting I decided to switch to left handed and see if it was still having issues. To my surprise it had no problem getting left handed shots. I (very poorly) hit 25 balls with a left handed club and it read every single one of them. Switch back to right handed and hit 25 or so balls, it missed all of them.

It is missing shots both in the ST driving range and TGC software.

I'm using the same clubs and balls that I always have.

The sim room has no windows so sunlight is not a factor.

    The unit is level.

What I have tried so far:

Cleaning the face of the machine

Direct, usb, and network mode connections. There is no change between the modes.

I have tried with the machine plugged, and unplugged from the power supply.

    I tried resetting the machine.

I tried the machine on another computer.

Does anyone have any ideas before we go through the process of getting the machine repaired/replaced under warranty?

Unfortunately that sounds very much like the right hand laser curtain is shot. It will need to go back for a repair, same thing happened to me earlier this year.

Exactly what was posted above, it sounds like the RH laser curtain (which is used to trigger the shot) has gone out. Unfortunately sounds like it will need to go in for repair

I gotta say, this is incredibly disappointing. The unit is less than two months out of warranty and wasn't regularly used until two months ago, and I would guess has recorded less than 2,500 shots and now we're going to get a $200 repair bill.

There seems to be more of these coming to light. How soon/often does a laser curtain fail? Is this something that is to be expected like the flash on a GC2? If so, it should be stated so buyers are aware.

This has just happened to me as well, Yesterday it started reading really bad and today no reading at all. For me its the left hand shot, the only good news is that I am right handed and can still play but my Buddy can not who is lefty. My skytrak was purchased on 4/23/18 so I will now try and send it in under warranty. I have never hit the skytrak with anything and its always been in the protective case so I would agree that this seems a little to fast for a component to be wearing out. Will i be enduring a 200+ expense each year to keep the unit running, I certainly hope not. I really hope the turnaround time is fast, not to mention what a time to just stop working giving the holidays and we will be sitting around on our days off unable to play.

Well I was just updated that the warranty period was 6 months so at 8 months i am screwed. I have went through every email I have involving the skytrak and can not find one that offers me extended warranty. Maybe I missed this during the purchase and then it needs to made much more clear to people. 8 months to have something fail and then have to shell out what ever this will take is a bit further than disappointing. even with extended warranty I think with purchasing the case and taking care of the unit as I do with all my things I would have a little more faith in better longevity of products. 8 months

My unit was purchased at the same time..... I wonder if there was a manufacturing defect that caused a bad batch of units.

If you purchased it with a credit card, check with the credit card company. Sometimes they double the warranty period.

I feel your pain on this, I did have the same thoughts about the curtain failing only a tad over 1 years use. I am hoping you are based in the US/Canada or the turn around time could be quite long.
I am based in the UK and they don't physically repair the units in the UK so we have to wait for them to be sent to the US to diagnose the fault and the process starts from then.
One thing I will say though Skytrak UK and especially SkyTrak_Seth made sure the process went as smooth as possible and I did feel looked after so no complaints on customer service and my repaired Skytrak has been working spot on ever since.

SkyTrak_Seth Two people with units purchased around the same time with the same issue 8 months after purchase.

Is it possible this was a part of a manufacturing defect?

I have the same issue, but haven’t wanted to send it in because I don’t want to not be able to use it. I have just been using in LH mode and swinging over the top of unit. Wish they had loaners you could have while waiting for repair.....

Bobsjohns Sorry for the delay, I haven't been on the forum in a few days. I totally agree with you - the part shouldn't be failing, particularly at 8 months. Can you PM me your email and serial number? Same to JB3 and ajax5184 . I haven't heard any reports of a "bad batch" but it wouldn't hurt to research this. Once we get the info on these units, I will try my best to get this resolved.

I got the same thing when i tried to PM. I'm sure he'll get this sorted out. I'm not sure if mine was from the same batch but I received my skytrak early July of this year.
