I was curious about the alignment of the skytrak and thinking about a way to verify the alignment. I thought about drilling a hole in a golf ball and tying a string to it. Then I would turn on my laser to align it to the screen. This would show me a path to pull the ball back on and let it swing past the unit. So if I pulled the golf ball back toward my ceiling and the laser was on the golf ball when I released it, the golf ball would be straight on a path. I could then turn the unit till it read straight. I don't know if any of this makes sense so I drew up a pic.

Maybe not use a string, even the smallest angle makes difference. Can you use an alignment stick or something sturdier.

Sounds like a good idea but I believe you're going to need a touch of velocity on that golf ball to get an accurate reading worth trying please report back with the results... I also have to have my machine slightly open to get the proper results.

Consider every unit needs to be allign every time it is used it's an interesting question.
I've a string/ribbon hung from the ceiling on my target line so hit balls until I'm happy with the reported start line versus what I see in reality........I used lasers to measure out the hitting point versus target line including ensuring this are parallel and not just a straight but off parallel line
This works well but does rely on my being able to hit the string (in itself good practise) a few times to get comfortable with the average read.
2 components important here imo, a physical reference target (laser line, ribbon, string) and a consistent aimable ball launcher.
laser is probably best for reference point.including some way to accurately make it parallel to an indoor reference (wall?)

How much velocity is required? Ie could a stimp metre type device work?
