Hi folks. I'll be pulling the trigger on a SkyTrak sim setup soon. I'm in the process of determining where to place my sim. Are there any considerations regarding how far from the screen the hitting area should be? I imagine since ST is based on ball strike, there's not really any minimum distance criteria out there like there is for radar-type launchers right? What has worked for everyone? I may have a fairly small footprint to work with (10' total front to back) so I'm looking for some advice.

Distance From Hitting Area to Screen

Im 7 feet from screen and my room is 20+ feet deep. Gives an immersive feel on my 8 feet tall screen. With 10 feet back to front you really do not have much choice. I believe you would hit back wall at 7 feet and the screen at 5. Obviously somewhere around 6 feet is going to work for you

General distance I have seen in other posts is 8-10 ft from impact to screen. My impact area is at 9 ft from screen. My width is 14 ft. I am going to use GC2 as my launch monitor which is camera based like ST.
You also need to consider projector placement in planning. Projector should ideally be centered on a right angle to the screen otherwise you will need to use keystone to make picture edges straight. Also consider how far back projector is going to be from screen and will you have shadows. The calculator on projector central is great tool for this planning.

The other challenge/decision I have is the way my ceiling is sloped. From the outside wall (window side), my ceiling starts at 8' but as I go farther into the room, it increases in height. In that configuration, I have the front to back distance constraint I posted about but takes up less footprint. Instead, I may install the sim perpendicular to the ceiling slope which will give me more distance front to back and as a righty should assure clearance for the driver. Just wasn't crazy about increasing the overall footprint, if any of this makes any sense. Still contemplating the ceiling mounted projector vs floor mount. Thanks for your comment.

Dan King the hitting area is often dictated by the placement of the projector (floor mount or ceiling mount). For example, I have a ceiling-mount short-throw projector at 6’1” from a 13’ wide screen because my projector has a 0.5 throw ratio. Therefore, my hitting area is about 7’6” from the screen so I’m behind the projector to avoid casting a shadow when I swing.

My screen is 2" off the wall with at 6" mattress topper between the screen and the wall. I only have a 13' deep room. Its super tight but works for me.

Not the best angle but here is my setup: https://imgur.com/a/OGq4kjM
The Screen is hung off tracks from the ceiling, the mattress topper bulges the screen out. Not pretty but functional.

Does that mean you have the mattress topper compressed 4”? Did you mean 2’ off the wall? How far away from the screen and back wall is the hitting area?Originally posted by htdumpsMy screen is 2" off the wall with at 6" mattress topper between the screen and the wall. I’m setting up a room with either 13’ or 14’, so following along with this thread.

htdumps Just to be clear, in the video, the distance from the window to the opposite wall is 13 feet? You have a 6" mattress topper that is directly against the wall, leaving you about 12'6". In your video you seem to just clear the window in the backswing (about 21 seconds remaining) and come very close to the screen on the follow through (about 7 seconds remaining in the video). It looks like you may not be fully extending on the follow through as well. BTW, I'm not critiquing your swing, just trying to point out space issues people need to consider. Here is a video of Justin Thomas and at the 1:42 mark you can see how much his extension is on the follow through, so depending upon how different people swing, you really need to take into account the space that's needed.
Dan King I just don't think 10' is going to work for you. I tried at 5' from my screen and I hit it with 4 iron. I could clear 5' in the back swing with a 4 iron, probably due to start of hinging of the swing, but not on the follow through. I'm about 5'10" for reference and that's with a standard length 4 iron. For my driver on the backswing, I could just barely clear at the 6' mark and I use just under a 44" driver.

Swing is definitely tight, If I would have never had a PGA pro come over and play with me I would be freaking out. But he was able to swing just fine, but like you said everyones swing is different. Im just working with what I have.Originally posted by wbond View Posthtdumps Just to be clear, in the video, the distance from the window to the opposite wall is 13 feet? I can make the 12' work I'm pretty sure.Originally posted by FaultyClubs View PostOut of curiosity I just tried my swing. At 5' 10' and with my driver, I needed 6' on the backswing and about the same on the follow through. So call it 12' total as the absolute minimum and I can't imagine actually swinging driver in a space so tight.
