I remember Seth saying they were going to carry out high ball speed testing at the end of September. I can’t find the results anywhere, were they ever published?

With all due respect, I can in no way or form understand how Optishot could be more accurate.Originally posted by Monkey05 View PostYes i agree ST is more accurate on the ball data, but on swing data especially how they see the club orintation to where the ball is placed as it passes through the monitoring zone optishot wins. .Also i know ball speed is important to figure distance snd club head speed however my distances on optishot on average are a closer representation to my real life results. Ball flight and miss hits are way more accurate on ST. It pretty good when you can feel a shot when you hot it and verbally say crap shank or worm burner and thats what shows up on ST. I am enjoying it I just wish was more reliable on distance off the tee.
With regards to swing data, ST does not measure club at all. It makes a guess at clubhead speed, which I ignore.
When it comes to ball data, other than for extreme hooks and slices, and 160+ ball speed, I don't think ST is off by more than a few yards.

OMG can you please tell me how the hell you guys are getting to over 150mph, if i use my driver and absolutely smash the spots off the ball and ignore accuracy then i can get to about 110mph, my usual speeds are around 100mph max.

yea i can understand that, my club speed is around 60 to 80mph and ball speed about 20 to 30mph more, depending which club i use....guess i will have to hit the gym then.
only a 26HC and have been playing for 2 1/2 years

Of course, 100 mph is for driver club head speed.
PW should be around 25 mph slower.
Don't worry, speed will come along with progress in your game.
And launch monitors are useful to give unbiased feedback (no wind, no slope,...) to your actual speed/distances with each club.

When people mention there club head speed, it is assumed driver unless specified otherwise. On absolutely perfect contact, ball speed is 1.5 times clubhead speed for driver. Ozmodion, it sounds as if your ball speed is low 150's, which is average for a male golfer. It is quite high for a 26 HC.
-
They are talking about ball speeds of 160+. Are you talking about club head speeds of 110? That is estimated on Skytrak unless you've integrated Skypro with it.Originally posted by Ozmodion View PostOMG can you please tell me how the hell you guys are getting to over 150mph, if i use my driver and absolutely smash the spots off the ball and ignore accuracy then i can get to about 110mph, my usual speeds are around 100mph max.

I've only had my ST for a couple of days, but I can already see the distance is short of what I really hit the ball on a golf course. About 20 yards short with the ST. I hit an 8 iron constantly 145 on the course, ST says 120 to 125 on every shot.

I would start by scrolling through the first few pages of this forum and look for posts related to short distances, accuracy, etc. You'll see the most common causes are ball color, mat, lighting, indoor swing.. Those will be the root cause way more than the unit doesn't work. Then just test each one until you find what's causing it. The best way to start is take the skytrak to a shaded range or at night. that will tell you how off it really is.

145 total on the course might be 135 carry depending on course conditions. You will definitely learn all your carry yardages with your skytrak.Originally posted by Cozman View PostI've only had my ST for a couple of days, but I can already see the distance is short of what I really hit the ball on a golf course. 80% of my shots with an 8 iron carry most of it, I usually get a hop and a stop within 3 to 5' of my divots on better greens, but it's not rolling out 10 yards (30 feet), that's for sure. I know what my on course yardages are because I play 2 or 3 times a week. I hit high floating shots. ST is telling me 120 and rolling out to maybe 125. Going to adjust the altitude tomorrow and see what does. Right now I have it set to 1100, which is Arizona's altitude.
-
Cozman you’ll figure it out. The majority of people in this forum had the same feelings. Check altitude, check ball, check for what the camera catches behind you.
Sooner or later you’ll realize you have to get over the indoor swing. You’ll get to your distances soon!!

Thanks calebn....
Played today out at Unions Hills..
Had a couple of shots today that were 145 to the green one of which had to carry a bunker at appox 138. Carried the bunker by about 5 yards and rolled out to about 145 and ended up 2" from the pin, made the birdie :-)
I think you and others are right, I'm not swinging the club as free or full in doors as I am outdoors.

I’ve verified the Skytrak algorithm with gold standard ball flight algorithms out there including Trackman outdoor. And Skytrak is EXTREMELY close. Its just the hardware that’s misrepresenting the ball speed to cause shorter/longer carries in certain instances.
I would trust Skytrak carry numbers and some might not agree because it will feel shorter but that would be the right distance.

@wizard-of-coz: a slightly different topic if you don’t mind - when you use SkyTrak and GC2 side by side, how do the side spin and side angles numbers compare between the two systems? If they differ, which one is more accurate? Thanks.
-
Sorry true i don't have both anymore. I was just confirming balls speed always lagged a wee bit.

I'm also experiencing shorter distance shots (5-8 yards or so) than normal. Regarding the mat possibly being part of the problem, what characteristics of the mat would affect that? Seems to me if you catch the ball solid on the club, the mat wouldn't have any impact since you're hypothetically taking a divot after the ball strike under outdoor conditions. Conversely, a less than solid shot where the mat comes into play (for instance, club hits mat first before ball), then I can see that slowing down the ball speed and spin.

I think the mat drags on the ball more than any real fairway grass. There might even be a build of static charges that drags on the ball. I know shots suffer when the ball and mat are struck simultaneously. This for the CCE type of thick "hold a tee" mat.

Perhaps. I'll have to see how this goes for a while until I'm convinced the mat may be the culprit.Originally posted by Dan McWhirter View PostI think the mat drags on the ball more than any real fairway grass. What is that exactly? I am pretty quick (7i swing speed is probably mid-upper 90s and driver 120ish?) I never hit the driver though due to limited space. 7i seems to read mostly fine ball speed gets around 115-120~Originally posted by DMarrero View PostI am eagerly awaiting as well as my swing speed falls in the range of interest.
